Point Of Light

Chapter 1
Sheridan sat on the ledge, just inside the glass, in the top of the old lighthouse. She stared out at the ocean, taking in the waters shine, and the nights beauty.
She was sitting in what was once known as Point Of Light. The most eastern part of New England, and the sight of the first lighthouse seen by incoming ships from the Old World in the 1600`s and 1700`s (I don't actually know if lighthouses existed then but whatever its fiction!). The stone lighthouse was at least 200 years old, and had been in full use until about 75 yrs. ago when the new house was built.
Just returning from France to Harmony, for the first time in a decade, Sheridan needed time for herself before facing her family. She was deep in thought as she lit the candle beside her with a flint she had found.
Luis watched from the shadows by the door as the mysterious woman lit the candle, casting an eerie glow out into the room. Dressed in a short white dress with white, wedge sandals, she looked like an angel amongst the mud. Stepping forward into the candle light he spoke up.
"Excuse me Miss."
Sheridan jumped at the sound of a mans voice, the candle crashing to the floor and throwing the room back into darkness.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to frighten you." he apologized and moved forward to pick up the fallen candle.
"Oh...ah...no, its all right...I..uh..didn`t realize this place was still used." Sheridan stammered. Something about this man, shook her to the bone. For some reason, even through all the pain, she suddenly felt safe.
"Ah well Miss, this place isn't supposed to be used. Its been closed for years, decades even and isn't too safe. I didn't notice a car outside, I can drive you home if you like." Luis smiled assuringly. The young woman looked scared, yet something in her crystal blue eyes told him she felt safe. He wondered who she was, he had never seen her around before.
"Oh no...that`s not necessary..."Sheridan voice quickly faded when she realized she didn't know his name.
"Luis, Officer Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald," he smiled, "And being a cop, its my job."
Sheridan smiled back softly and shook her head. "Truly, I don't have far to go. I'm sorry." Brushing past him she hurried out into the night, yelling "Goodnight!" behind her. She ran along the beach and off into the woods.
Luis watched from the window as the woman ran down the beach and into the woods. 'Like a scared kitten' he thought. Turning around Luis walked out and back to his police cruiser.
