Gambit has the power to kinetically charge objects causing them to explode. He gives large ammounts of energy to objects. The bigger the object is, the bigger the explotion is. It takes him a few minutes to energize a big object, which is mostly why he uses cards. The cards are fast and small so it only takes him a few seconds. He can energize knives and more things, but cannot energize living matter. He can't do it to human beings, or mutants.
Other Mutant abilities:
Remy also has a agility power that no one can match. Resulting in this, he can most likely beat anyone in a sports match. (Example: X-Men #4) This also makes Gambit a great theif. He also has great endurance, which means he can last long during battles.
