People Will Say We’re in Love-Chapter 2

"Sonny!" the woman shouted as she spotted him in the crowded airport waiting room. She continued to push her way through the crowd and shouted again. He finally heard her and turned to face her voice. She saw the smile that came on his face, and knew that in spite of what he said, he was very happy that she came.

He met her halfway and drew her into a hug. "It’s been too long since I’ve seen you."

She laughed and agreed. "I know it has. That’s why I’m here. So," she said as he ushered her towards the door. "Are you going to show me all there is to Port Charles today, or can we just do that later?"

He saw how tired she was and laughed. "I told you that you didn’t have to come so early in the morning. I would have been free anytime to pick you up."

"I know," she said almost collapsing into the limo. "But, either way, it would have been tiresome. Those flights from Japan are horribly long."

He laughed. "Yeah, they usually are. You never told me why you were leaving Japan in the first place," he said before giving the orders for the driver to go.

She sighed and leaned back against the plush, comfortable back seat. "Well, I’m here for an interview. I went to the internship fair a couple of months ago, submitted my resume, had an interview with one of the vice presidents, and was hired. That’s why I’m here. I loved Japan, but I really missed the US."

He leaned over and kissed her on the cheek. "Well, we’re glad to have you back in the US. When are you planning to go see your mother? I don’t think that she’ll be happy with you if you don’t."

"Mama’s never happy with me no matter what I do," she said bitterly. "Well, I’ll talk to her soon enough. But, not today. I think that I’m going to take a nice long nap so that I’ll be well rested for my first day at work tomorrow."

He smiled. "You never told me where you’re going to be working."

She returned his smile and shook her head. "No, I didn’t"

"What if Lucky just doesn’t want to be found?" Laura asked as she sat on the couch next to her mother. She began massaging the back of her neck. This stress was really getting to her. "I don’t know what I’ll do if Lucky decides that he doesn’t want a relationship with his family. I can’t bear to lose him again, Mama."

Lesley took her daughter’s hand. "I know. You have to believe that Lucky will come home to you and Luke. I know that there’s no way that he wouldn’t want to have his family in his life. I’m going to get Lulu ready for bed, okay," she said rising.

"Thanks. I don’t know what I would do without you here. I really appreciate everything you’re doing for me."

"That’s what mothers are for," she said giving Laura’s hand one last squeeze. "Try to get some sleep tonight, okay."

Laura smiled and watched her mother go up the stairs. She got up and walked over to the mantle of the fireplace. The faces of her family smiled back at her. She picked up the one of Nikolas, Lucky, and Lulu. Her children were so happy together. If they couldn’t have a relationship with her, they were beginning to have one with each other before… "Damn you, Helena," she spat out.

She wiped away her tears when she heard the doorbell ring. "I’ve got it!" she shouted up the stairs. She wiped her eyes once again before opening the door. "Stefan," she said coldly when she saw who was standing on the other side of the door.

He smiled. "Good evening to you, too, Lasha," he said entering the house. "I heard that you were back in town. Your search was not fruitful?"

She shook her head. "No, it was not, as if you care. What do you want, Stefan?"

He raised an eyebrow at her. "I was just inquiring about your son, Lasha. He is Nikolas’ brother after all, and I know that he has been looking for Lucky as well."

She sighed and nodded her head. "All right, I’ll give you that. I don’t know how we’re going to find him, since he obviously doesn’t want to be found by us."

"I can offer you my services. I was able to find him the first time; it should not be too incredibly difficult for me to find him a second."

"Why? Why would you do this for me?" she asked him re-seating herself on the couch. "I thought that you knew that we are no longer together, Stefan. You made that happen, and there is no chance that we’re getting back together."

He smiled down at her. "I am quite aware of that. I assure you, I have no desire to resume our relationship; be rest assured on that account. I only offer my assistance to you because your child is lost to you because of my mother, and I only wished to help you locate him."

She looked away from him. There was no way to deny that she was hurt by what he said. She never thought that he would let her go so easily. She nodded her head. "I just want my son back, so whatever help you can give, Stefan, I will gladly accept."

"I will dispatch several search parties for you. We will find Lucky," he said reassuringly. "I know my way out."

She watched as he left. She took a deep breath. Could he really mean what he said? Was he truly over her, and had no inclination to pursue her any longer? She should be happy about that, right? "Then why aren’t I?" she asked out loud.

"Wow," Hannah said when she met Marcus at the table. "You must’ve gotten some really good news."

"Good morning," he said giving her a small kiss before pushing her chair in. He re-seated himself across from her. "Yes, it seems that my mother and my youngest sister are coming for a visit at the end of the week. I can’t wait for you to meet them."

Her eyes widened. He mentioned that they were hoping to come, but weren’t sure if they could. Although she knew that their arrival would make him happy, she kind of wished they weren’t going to be able to come. She was terrified of meeting his family. She didn’t know how they were going to accept her. "That’s wonderful, honey," she said smiling.

"That look on your face doesn’t say that you’re happy about it. What’s the matter?"

She shook her head and smiled again. "Nothing is wrong. I can’t wait to meet them, but I’m starved. Are you ready to order?"

He knew that he wasn’t going to get anything out of her right then. He glanced at his watch. He had to be to work soon, anyway, so he didn’t have time to interrogate her any further. "Okay. You’re lucky that I have to be at work soon so I can’t find out the truth."

Carly exited the elevator and walked over to Sonny’s penthouse. "Good morning, Johnny," she said smiling.

"Good morning, Ms. Roberts. Is Mr. Corinthos expecting you?"

She smiled and nodded her head and rubbed her stomach. "Yes, we have a doctor’s appointment this morning. I thought that I would just come over here rather than him picking me up," she explained as he let her in. She walked in and smiled thinking over the good times that she had there with… She shook her head. It was not good to even think about Jason.

"Hello?" Esmerelda asked as she saw the woman standing in the middle of Sonny’s living room. "Can I help you?"

Carly spun around and smiled at the woman. She eyed her and looked her up and down. She was extremely attractive, Carly had to give her that much. So, Sonny was going for a black woman now? "I’m waiting for Sonny."

Sonny came in from the kitchen. "Carly," he smiled. "Good morning. I thought I was meeting you at the hospital."

She nodded. "A slight change of plans. Did you want to keep me from your friend here?" She went forward and extended her hand. "Hi, I’m Carly Roberts, the mother of Sonny’s baby."

She shook her hand and looked over at Sonny with humor in her eyes. "So, you’re Carly. Well, it was nice to meet you, but today’s the first day at my new job, and I don’t want to be fired yet, so I really have to go. I think that we will be seeing each other around, Carly. I’ll see you later, Sonny," she said walking out of the door.

"Carly, I must say that I’m extremely proud of you," Sonny said going through his mail on the desk.

She folded her arms. "What are you proud of me for, Sonny?"

"You just have the knack of turning anyone who meets you off. I wonder if you can ever make a good impression."

"I don’t care if your little girlfriend likes me or not, Sonny. Please, I don’t care what she or anybody thinks of me."

"It’s obvious. Well, even though you don’t deserve an explanation, I’ll give you one. Esmerelda is my cousin. She has just gotten a job here in Port Charles, and she has been living in Japan for the past four years. Now, do you feel silly now."

She tossed her hair back from her face. Of course she was a little embarrassed, but she wasn’t going to let him see that. "Okay. She’s your cousin. How?"

"My mother’s sister’s daughter." He glanced at his watch. "Are you ready to go?"

She rolled her eyes and followed him out of the penthouse.

"So, did you enjoy your weekend?" Marcus asked Dara.

She looked up and found him standing in the doorway of her office. "Yeah, very relaxing," she said smiling. "Come on in."

He came in and shut the door behind him. "So, I have to tell you that I was surprised to find you sitting with Jax, Alexis, and Stefan at the Outback the other night."

She laughed. "I was surprised, too. The last thing I expected was to get an invitation from them to join them. Actually, the biggest surprise is that I actually enjoyed myself."

His eyes widened. "Are you serious? You had fun with the three of them. Are you sure you’re feeling all right today?"

Nodding, she said, "Surprisingly yes. I guess they’re not such bad people after all. I know that it’s a little hard to believe. Alexis wasn’t even as bad as she usually is. Outside of the courtroom, she can be a really decent person. What?" she asked noticing him laughing.

"I’m just picturing you and Alexis having lunch, going shopping, and having sleepovers," he said finally ceasing his laughter so that he could talk.

"Ha, ha, very funny, Marcus. Well, that’s enough small talk for this morning. I really have to get to work. I don’t plan on taking anything home with me tonight."

"Wow, you’re really serious about this new outlook on life thing, aren’t you?"

She nodded decisively. "You better believe it. I’ll to talk you later."
