Everything I Do-Chapter 6

She didn’t know why, but she was extremely nervous. It wasn’t like they had never had dinner before alone, but tonight was different. Tonight she needed an answer. She wanted Jason to agree to marry her.

Carly knew everything was going well for them. They finally had the wonderful relationship that they had sought for so long. They had a beautiful and wonderful son together. But, there was one thing missing, she thought as she looked down at her bare hand, she wanted to be his wife.

It was no secret that never truly felt secure in anything. Sure, she as a totally different person than the girl that came to Port Charles bent on revenge not so long ago, but the only reason she changed was because of Jason. He made her a better person, and she would like to think that she made him more human. She knew that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with him, but she had to be sure he felt the same way.

She nearly jumped out of her skin when she heard the knock at the door. She shook her head and chuckled at her silliness. She straightened the table one last time and straightened her dress as she walked over to answer the door. "Jason," she said smiling at him. "I thought you’d never get here."

Jason knew better than the comment on the fact that he was on time. He just gave her a small smile and entered the apartment giving her a small kiss and the flowers he brought for her. He knew little things like flowers always made her happy. He watched her look for a vase to put them in. Maybe this wasn’t a good time to tell her that Robin was back in town, but then again, when would be a good time?

"They’re so beautiful," she said arranging them in the crystal vase and water. "I hope you’re hungry; I have a big dinner planned."

Jason smiled as he sat down on the couch. "You really cooked?"

"Well, with Keesha’s guidance, I have prepared us a wonderful meal, Jason. Look at all I do for you," she said as she sat next to him. She took his hand and interlaced their fingers.

He looked down at their clasped hands. He really loved Carly, but he knew she felt threatened by Robin. Before he had a chance to say anything, she sensed that something was wrong. "Hey, Jase, what’s wrong?"

"Robin’s back in town," he answered in his usual blunt manner.

Carly smiled wearily and nodded her head. "I thought she might return one of these days now that it turns out that Brenda isn’t really dead. She has to be little Miss perfect and return to be there for her."

"Carly, I really don’t want to talk about Robin. I only brought it up because she came by to visit me before I came over."

"So, she is already trying to get you back. How could she dare visit you after what happened before she left? The nerve of her."

Calmly, Jason repeated, "I told you that I don’t want to talk about Robin. Where is Michael?"

She attempted to calm herself down, and Jason knew just how to do that, mention Michael. She smiled and said, "Keesha said that she and Jax would keep him tonight. That should be very interesting. I think that she is trying to groom him for fatherhood." She paused and looked into his eyes. "I want tonight to be special for us, Jason. I need to know something before we continue with anything tonight."

"What do you need to know?"

"Jason, I love you, and I know that you love me to. Our life together is wonderful, but I need a little more than this. I want you and Michael and me to be a real family, Jason. Where we live together with the white picket fence, and the whole nine yards," she said laughing. "I want to be your wife, Jason." She paused and looked at him to gauge his reaction. "I guess, what I am saying is, will you marry me?"

She could see a smile in his eyes. "So, you are proposing to me, now?"

"Somebody had to take the initiative, Jase. I got kind of tired of waiting for you to ask me, so I thought I’d ask you."

He removed his hand from hers and reached over to grab his leather jacket. He pulled a small velvet burgundy box from one of the pockets. He held up the box and studied it while he spoke. "Well, I bought this, for you," he said looking over at her.

Her eyes lit up, and her hands flew to her mouth to prevent herself from screaming. "Jason, is that what I think it is?" she said pointing at the box.

He shrugged, "What do you think it is?" He opened the box and studied the ring inside.

"Oh, my, it’s so beautiful. Jason," she said throwing her arms around his shoulders.

"Yes, Carly, I will marry you. Now, will you marry me?"

"Oh, you bet," she said giving him a kiss. After a while he pulled away. She extended her left hand, and he put the ring on her finger. "This is perfect," she said leaning against his chest.

He nodded. He really felt like it was. "Well, how about that wonderful dinner that you prepared?"

"Do want to give him a bath?" Keesha asked as she picked him up.

"I wouldn’t want to take that pleasure away from you, dear," he said smiling. She gave him a look as if to say ‘Yeah, right’ as she left with Michael.

The phone rang, and Jax reached over to answer it. "Hello."

"Hi, Jax," V said from the other end. "I think that I have some news that might be of some interest to you."

"What information would prompt you to call me to tell me tonight? Go on, Venus. I’m listening," he said obviously interested in what she was about to say.

"Mac got a call today from someone I think that you know quite well."

She paused, and Jax prompted her to go on. "Well, Venus, don’t keep me in suspense."

"Miranda Jameson called him today. It seems that she will be making a trip to Port Charles."

"You’ve got to be kidding me, V," Jax said incredulously. "That’s just what I need, another resurrected ex-wife. Did Mac say why she was coming back here?"

"No, not really. He only mentioned it. Although, I would hazard a guess it’s probably something to do with you."

Jax sighed and shook his head. "You’re usually right, V, but in this case, I hope you’re very wrong." He looked up and saw Keesha returning. "Thanks for the info. I’ll talk to you later."

"Keesha’s there isn’t she?"

"Yeah. I’ll talk to you about this tomorrow. Good night, V." When she returned the salutation, he hung up the phone. "Where’s Michael? I thought that he might hang out with us for a little while. It’s only 6:30."

Keesha sat down next to him. "Well, we’ve sort of gotten into a little routine with Michael on Friday nights. He takes a nap, and then we watch a movie when he wakes up."

"Interesting," he said pulling her closer to him. "A nap. How long does this nap usually last?"

"Jax," she warned him as she tried to get up, but he pulled her back down onto his lap. "Trust me, I want you, too, but we are supposed to be baby-sitting."

"Okay, okay," he said letting her get up. "You win."

"Oh, I don’t think that either of us is winning," she said getting up.

"Are you going to ask who was on the phone?" he asked somewhat surprised that she hadn’t already.

She shook her head. "That isn’t any of my business. If you wanted me to know, you would tell me."

"No wonder I love you so much. That was V. She has given me some very interesting information. Miranda is coming back to town soon."

Keesha narrowed her eyes as she placed the name. "Miranda, as in your ex-wife, Miranda?"

"That’s exactly who I’m talking about."

"So, it seems as if all of your ex-wives are coming back to town. You think that maybe I should invite them over for brunch or something. We can have a little reunion of sorts. You think that they could give me some pointers," she said jokingly.

He laughed. "I don’t think that you would want to take any advice they would have to give. I’m glad that you can see humor in the situation."

She shrugged. "My upset quota is limited to one presumed dead wife. I can deal with the rest without a problem. I should ask how you feel about her return. I know that the two of you aren't exactly the best of friends."

He shook his head. "No, we’re not. But, as long as she stays out of my way and yours, I’ll stay out of hers. We don’t have any further business to discuss with one another, so there should be no reason for us to cross paths. I do think that it is a little coincidental that she comes back to town right after Brenda has returned."

"You don’t think that Miranda has anything to do with that, do you?" Keesha asked although she found the timing odd as well.

"With Miranda, there’s no telling. But, I don’t want to talk about that right now. I really don’t care. Have you and Lucy made any progress on the wedding."

She smiled as she brought wedding books over to him. "I thought you’d never ask." She sat down and spread the books out on the table. "You know, I’m surprised that you’re not on the phone right now to Jerry."

"It’s not important enough to bother him with right now. I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough what she’s coming back for. Miranda was never good at keeping secrets."

"Okay," she said a little doubtful about what he said. "Well, here are my colors," she said handing him the samples.

"These are beautiful. I see that you’re not planning to wear white," he said smiling as he studied the samples. "Good choice."

She hit him playfully on the arm. Rolling her eyes, she said, "Well, I’m wearing winter white. I think that it matches the deep, rich purple better. Don’t you think? I’m going for a fall/winter experience."

"Sure," he said smiling as he handed the samples back to her. "What about this dress?"

"You know that you can’t see that. But, I’ll show you what I’m thinking about for bridesmaid dresses if you want."

"There’s no need. I trust your judgment. But, I would like to take a look at what you plan to wear on our wedding night," he teased her.

"Jax!" she admonished him, but began laughing. "You’re positively insatiable, do you know that." She moved closer to him on the couch. "But, I wouldn’t want you any other way."
