Everything I Do-Chapter 10

Carly had to admit that Gerard’s visit last night shook her up quite a bit. She thought that she had left that part of her life in the past where it belonged. Should she tell Jason about it; what good would it do to know that her past before she came to Port Charles was a lot worse than what she had done there? No good would come of that, and she definitely wasn’t afraid of him anymore. She would just take care of this on her own; she resolved.

"Hi, Carly," Lucy said coming downstairs beaming. "I’m glad you could come over for lunch today, and thanks for coming early to help me set everything up. You know that I don’t know my way around a kitchen very well."

Carly laughed. "Well, I’m afraid that I’m no better than you. The real cook in this family is Keesha, and since this is for her, I don’t think that it would be appropriate to ask her to help out."

"Well," she said nodding decisively. "We are going to do wonderfully, or we could just order out and pretend we cooked."

"I think that I like that idea better," she said as Lucy wrote out what they were going to have. "Can I ask you something, Lucy?"

"Sure, ask away," she said brightly.

"There are some things in your past that you aren’t proud of right?"

She nodded as she thought. "Lots of things. I think everyone has done things that they aren’t proud of at one time or another."

"I know, but it seems that what we’ve done comes to light more so than others’ misdeeds. I know that my father is no saint, but is there anything that you haven’t told him?"

Lucy eyed Carly suspiciously. "Is there something that you’re not telling Jason, and you really think that you should?" Carly nodded. "Well, if that’s the case, go with your gut. Many of my relationships have failed in the past because I neglected to tell something I thought was unimportant."

"I know I should, but Jason and I are solid right now. Everything seems to be going so well. I really don’t want to bring up the past to hurt that."

She reached across the table and took Carly’s hand. "Listen to me. I know Jason, some of the young boy I used to know is still there, I know it is. I practically raised him, so I can see it. He will not care about your past, Carly, if your honest with him. Secrets have a way of coming out anyway."

"Don’t I know it." She sighed. "I just don’t know what I should do."

They both heard Jerry and his parents coming in the house. "If you ever want to talk about this anymore, remember I’m here."

She smiled. "Thank you, Lucy, and I think I’m going to take you up on that offer."

"Hey, what are step-mothers for," she said giving her a hug as they went to join the others.

Keesha heard the door bell ring. "Did you order breakfast or something?" she shouted. There was no answer. "Jax!" She rolled her eyes and pulled her robe back on because she had yet to finish dressing. "I know you can hear me," she said as she left the room. "When I’m in the shower, I can hear you," she finished as she opened the door. "May I help you?"

The older woman smiled. "You must be Keesha," she walking into the penthouse.

Keesha looked perplexed. Who was this woman. "Yes, I am, can I help you with something."

"Grandmother," Jax said joining them in the living room. He gave her a hug. "I thought you were going over to Jerry’s with Mom and Dad."

She smiled. "I was, but I decided that it has been much too long since I’ve seen you. I’m sorry we haven’t been in touch much. I really wanted to come to Jerry’s wedding, but I couldn’t get away. At least the two of them came to visit me."

"You’ve met Keesha, right," he said grabbing her hand to bring her closer to him. "This is my grandmother, Katherine Jacks."

"I must say it’s a pleasure to meet you," she said smiling as she extended a hand to Keesha. "Jax has told me a great deal about you."

"Really," she said looking at Jax. "It’s nice to meet you, too. Please excuse me, I…" she said letting go of his hand, "need to get dressed."

"I think that she might be a little upset with you, Jax," Katherine told her grandson as he showed her to the sofa.

"I think you might be right. I’ll be right back," he said going upstairs. He entered the bedroom and found her dressing. "Are you upset with me?"

"You knew she was coming today, didn’t you?" she asked stopping her task to look at him.

He nodded. "Yes, I did. Is that what you’re upset with me about? That seems a little odd."

"Well, excuse me if I didn’t want your grandmother’s first impression of me being in my robe at your penthouse. I’m sure it’s obvious why I’m here."

He sighed. "I assure you, my grandmother’s opinion of you will not be lowered because of that. My grandmother is no saint, she’s a Jacks," he joked.

"I don’t find this funny," she said brushing her hair. "Maybe that’s how your family works, but mine doesn’t work like that. If you would have told me she was coming today, then I would have made sure to spend the night at my own apartment."

He nodded. "I know that."

"So, that’s why you didn’t tell me. You know what, since she’s already here, we’re going to discuss this later," she said putting down the brush and leaving the bedroom.

He shook his head and smiled, and then joined her.

"What’s Uncle Jasper done this time?" Carly asked Keesha.

"What do you mean? He hasn’t done anything," she said off handedly.

Carly rolled her eyes. "Don’t play that with me. It’s obvious that you’re upset with him for something. Now, tell me, you know I’m going to find out anyway."

"Okay, I’m really sure if it’s me that’s the problem though. I don’t know what has been getting into me lately. I’ve been really emotional and very testy, and I’m always tired," she said sighing.

"I don’t know, sounds like pregnancy to me," Carly said. Upon seeing the panicked look Keesha gave her, she laughed. "I’m not saying that you are, although it’s quite possible with the way the two of you have been behaving. Maybe you should talk to Jax about this. He’s right over there, and I’m sure Dad won’t mind sparing his brother for a few minutes."

She nodded her head. "Okay, I’ll talk to him now. I think that I’ve avoided him long enough." She reached him and said, "Could I talk to you for a few minutes?"

He nodded. "I’ll be right back," he said to Jerry as the two of them went out on the terrace. "Okay, you have my undivided attention. Is this about why you were angry with me earlier?"

She nodded. "I think that was because I’m PMSing or something like that, but…" she said turning away from him.

"But, there’s more," he finished.

"Yes, there is." She sighed. "When you first asked me to marry you, I had to have been the happiest woman in the world." She paused, but she knew she had to continue. "I was secure in your love for me, you know, but when I saw Brenda in the doorway of your bedroom…"

He turned her around to face him. "I told you that you had nothing to worry about with Brenda. She’s not a threat to you."

She nodded her head; "Yes, she is. I’ve been just pretending that she isn’t. I even told Karen the other day that she was not going to be a problem until she decided to make herself one, but she’s already done that. I know how much you loved her, Jax, and I can’t help but compare myself to her."

"Which is why you would want to make the best possible impression on my family. There’s no need to worry about that, my grandmother loves you all ready. Yes, I did love Brenda very much, but the important word is did."

She shook her head now. "You can’t just turn that off and on at a whim, Jax."

"I know that. You loved AJ, but do you still have those same feelings for him?"

"That’s different. He wasn’t ripped from me while I still cared for him like Brenda was. She died, Jax, and now she’s back. And, the fact that you won’t even talk to her doesn’t make things any better."

"Fine," he said. "If you want me to talk to her, then I will. It won’t change anything, but I will talk to her for you. I want you to feel secure in my love for you. So, I will talk to her."

She sighed; she knew better than to argue with him about this any further. "Is this why you want us to get married so soon, so I can feel secure."

"No," he said wrapping his arms around her. "That is for purely selfish reasons. I just want to make you mine as soon as possible. You’re not having second thoughts, are you?"

Smiling, she shook her head. "No, I’ve never had second thoughts about you, my love."

"So, we’re okay then." She nodded an answer. "Okay, then, we’ll just pick you up some Midol on the way home, and everything will be okay," he teased her.

She moved away from the hug and hit him on the arm playfully. "I love you, Jax," she said seriously.

"And, I love you, too. Shall we rejoin the others," he said opening the door to go back into the house.
