"So, what do you want to do? Movie, supper, walk?" Rex looked down at Sunny, who was trying to decide on what to do for their first date.
"I don't really know. I'm not that hungry yet, so I guess we could always just go for a walk. I know if we saw a movie, I'd just get popcorn and ruin my appetite, but if we go for a walk, I'll work up an appetite, then we can go for supper, then see a movie afterwards."
"You don't have to be so analytical, it's just a date." Rex smiled, as Sunny laughed.
"I'm sorry. Guess I was just thinking out loud." Out of nowhere, she threw her arms around Rex, hugging him.
"Hey now, what'd I do for this?" He hugged her back, feeling her breath on his skin.
"I've just always wanted to hug you. The time just felt right." She looked up at him, and he wanted to kiss her. But he stopped himself, not wanting to make her uncomfortable. She slowly pulled away from him, setting off towards the park.
They had been walking for over an hour, learning more about each other. Rex had told her all about his childhood in Italy, and she been extremely interested. But when he didn't say much about his reasonings for moving here, or what he had been donig the past couple of years, he knew she had been disappointed, but had stored that away for later use.
She told him about her childhood, growing up with a brother who could care less about her, and without a mother, until her father had married Ace's mother. But Patria still had been unable to fill the gap left by her own mother Cali, even though she had tried. Rex was surprised by Sunny's intellect, and her maturity. She spoke with such precise words, knowing exactly how to properly phrase herself for every situation.
They decided to finally go for some food, as they settled on a Vietnamese restaurant. There they talked more about their present situations, and about their futures. Sunny was working on a few things, mainly a novel and a screenplay, which she hoped one day to get published. When Rex asked her about her songs, she was a little adamant to give him a straight answer.
"I don't know what I plan on doing with them. I just write for myself. I hardly ever let anyone else hear them."
"Slipping up I see?" Sunny looked up at Rex, a confused expression on her face.
"What do you mean?"
"You've been acting totally confident and sure of yourself all night long, yet you said you hardly ever let people hear your songs. You could have used any other word, but you didn't. You don't want anyone to hear your music, do you?" Sunny was surprised, she hadn't expected Rex to be so quick to pick up on things.
"I guess maybe I don't. It has nothing to do with confidence though"
"Don't tell me that. It has everything to do with it. You know it does. I don't understand why though. Your music is so beautiful, your voice is so captivating"
"You really think so?" Sunny cursed herself for sounding so desperate, but luckily Rex hadn't seemed to pick up on that.
"Of course I do. Ace told me not to lie to you." Sunny laughed as soon as she heard that.
"You'd do well to listen to him. He's tried to lie to me countless times, but I can always tell. I'm good at reading people. I think I'd like to study psychiatry." Rex let her analyze him, laughing as she was completely off kilter.
"There are a lot of pieces that are missing from my puzzle. That's why you're so far off."
"Are you ever gonna fill them in for me?" She looked up at him so expectantly, and so seriously.
"One day. One day I will."
