The first annual Acorean Day Festival was held this past week in Toronto and I had the opportunity to perform a 3 song set for the Portuguese dignitaries present. My profuse thanks to event coordinator, Matthew Correia for the invite!. On a side note, I have been hard at work penning and subsequently recording tracks (Fat Labs Studio) for my upcoming album. I had the enormous privilege of performing this past weekend for the compadres of the Academia do Bacalhau from neighbouring countries, including the States and Brazil, just to name a few. I wish to extend my thanks to Ivo Azevedo, President of ADB, for the invite and I wish the organization continued success in their endeavours.
This past Friday, June 9, I performed my single "This Time" at the Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life at Centennial Park. As always, the event was both inspiring and thought-provoking. I presented Angela, the chair of the event, with another cheque for $500 from the proceeds raised from the sales of the single. We can all contribute to this worthy cause by volunteering or donating. This past Sunday, October 14, I performed two-song sets at the Tony Silveira Band CD Launch, held at the RBC Theatre, Living Arts Centre. It was a wonderful experience and wish Tony and his band immense success! Pictures and media articles will be posted at the end of the week. Hi everyone! I recently joined the FPCBP, an organization brimming with ingenuity and talent, as executive coordinator. As for the album, I am in the midst of putting the finishing touches on it; as of late, it remains untitled. The first single, "The One" hit the airwaves this week in mainland Portugal and I will be adding some tracks to the media player in the coming weeks, so stay tuned! *Beijinhos* Jenn.
This past weekend, I participated in Adiaspora.com's "Lusofonia na Diaspora" conference, which was an informative and indelible experience of personal reflection. I'd like to thank Mr. Jose Ferreira for inviting me to partake in the conference and I wish his burgeoning organization continued success. Hi everyone! I stopped by CIRV 88.9 FM (Toronto) to wish the staff a wondeful holiday and was delighted to partake in an impromptu interview with Maria Fernanda. We discussed my latest endeavour - subsequently my follow-up sophomore album, which is still untitled. I have laid down a number of tracks and look forward to its imminent release in early 2008. Finally, there is no time more appropriate than during the holiday season, to thank each and every one of you for your continued support and friendship. Last night, I had the honour of performing twice at the Canadian Cancer Society's "Relay for Life" at Centennial Park. I would like to thank CTV's Pauline for giving me the opportunity to share my story with her viewers and the wonderful staff of the Toronto West Unit at the Canadian Cancer Society ie. Angela, Candace, etc for their hard work, dedication and allowing me to perform both at the Survivor's dinner and Center stage.
I have been contracted by Novo Mundo/The Portuguese Report, a bilingual newspaper in Toronto, to write monthly articles. My first article entitled "Who's the Terrorist" was published this week. Furthermore, please read my publication in Novo Mundo Newspaper, on the riveting documentary, The Shoeshine Boy. On the musical front, my single "This Time" was promoted on FPTV/SIC. Fernando Cruz Gomes, a well-known and respected journalist, wrote a heart-felt article on "This Time"; the article will be up for viewing in the coming weeks.
My latest single "This Time" was written in response to my father's adversities with cancer. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society. First & foremost, I'd like to wish everyone a very prosperous New Year. On New Year's eve I performed alongside Daniel Carvalho at Oasis Convention Center. On Dec/10, I had the privilege of performing for underprivileged children at the annual "Natal Das Criancas at Casa Do Alentejo".
