Essential Travel Advice
While travel is a personal experience, every one of us needs to be aware of essential information. In my 15 years as a travel agent, I've learned how to prevent the kind of mishaps that can put a damper on an eagerly awaited journey. Follow these fundamental rules of travel for a bon voyage:
Travel Documents
- Be certain that the name on your ticket is identical to the name on your identification document (first and last name only).
- For domestic travel, you must provide a government issued photo ID. A drivers license is ideal. Passport, government ID, or military ID also provide proof of identity.
- For international travel, I recommend a passport with at least 6 months of validity remaining beyond your departure date.
- Until Dec. 31st 2005, you may travel to the caribbean, central and south america using proof of citizenship and proof of identity in the form of a certified copy of your birth certificate, issues by the state or local government, and with a raised seal embedded in the paper accompanied by a government issued photo ID.
- After Dec. 31st 2005, you must have an unexpired passport to travel anywhere other than Canada and Mexico.
