After our long three night stand in Darwin, we were ready to go to the
Litchfield Nationalpark (NP). The NP is famous for the stunning waterfalls
and the termite mounds. After walking we could refresh in the natural
pools with lovely surrounding. The termits are amazing deth and blind
insects. Up to 6 millions live in one mound. On the border to WA (Western
Australia), we had to stop. It is not allowed to take any fruit or vegies
to WA. We left the onions, garlic and the cardboards behind us. We got
the cardboards replaced! Wyndham is a small town with a crocodilefarm.
We saw the huge salties (saltwater crocs) very close. The youngsters are
so cude! A massiv Boabtree is in the town as well. The sunset and sunrise
from the lookout was unforgottable. After a long gravelroad we reach Windjana
Gorge. It is a famous place for the freshies (Freshwater Crocs) and we
saw about 50 of them! Some like to stand like a model (good for making
pictures). We celebrated our one-year-travel-anniversary in Broom. We
had a delicious dinner and went to the open-air-cinema.It was fullmoon
in Port Headland. So we could see the staircaise to the moon. The light
reflects in the water by lowtide like stairs.
The Karijini NP is one of our favourite. The Gorges are fascinating. We
walked and climbed between the step layered rocks. We sufferd the cold
nights and Jonathan the bumpy roads. We finished the awesome NP with a
walk to the Mt. Bruce. We stayed by a friend in Tom Price and experienced
a real Aussiparty (BBQ and Beer!). The easy going atmosphare and the funny
games made it a special evening. On the road again we stayed in a Rest
Aera, when it started rainning. The sandales were flooded away in the
morning and Jonathan was surrounded by water. After 5 minutes fight in
the mud we got him free! We drove furhter and had to stop because of a
floodway. We waited chatting and reading for 5 hours until we could pass.
We had a small amount of water under the seat and the engine stop on the
other side. Luckily it started again and it could dy while driving.
The Ningaloo Reef was the next destination. We snorcheld together with
turtles and fish, discovered a blue seastar and little rays. The Dolphine
in Monkey Mia are fed three times. The Ranger let you feed them too and
so we were lucky ones. The pelicanes are on the same spots. They take
profit with catching fish away from the dolphines while they are hunting
them.
We drove along the scenic drive to the pinnacles. This stones are standing
in yellow sand and create an extraordinary world. The next stop is Perth.
We were busy with selling Jonathan. We cleaned and advertised him in with
flyers in the hostels. We received just one call and they took it!! Great!
That was our biggest worry. We still had a lot to do: buying stuff, sightseeing
and preparing our next step. We both start cycling again. Manuela continues
in Australia and Ivo in the States before meeting up in New York again.
All the best and no worries!
