Born on Cardassia Prime to the respectable captain of a Galor-class cruiser and his first officer, Saket spent the early years of his life rich and priveleged, living aboard his father's starship and not giving half a thought to the less fortunate citizens of the Cardassian Union. The majority of his formal and a good portion of his informal education was had in these years. When war with the Federation broke out, his father's ship was sent to aid in the defense of the Chin'toka system. It was here that Amin's life took a turn for the worst. The ship was destroyed and his entire family captured by Romulans. Held with his parents as a prisoner of war, the unfortunate survivors of the battle were starved and tortured. Being young and healthy, Amin was one of the few survivors, and when he and two of his fellow captives were released at the end of the Dominion War, the 16 year old young man had shed almost all of his Cardassian nature, instead adopting a sympathy for ! those below him, a killer instinct and a powerful hatred of Romulans. Terrified that if he returned home he'd find himself in the dystopian state he new as a child, he instead made his way to the heart of the Federation with the thought of getting as far away from the Neutral Zone as he possibly could. Unable to settle down, he eventually enlisted in Starfleet.
Amin Saket is a very quiet person, yet speaks when he needs to. Despite his harsh background, he still manages to find time for a joke or two. Although he is uneasy about the Cardassian government, he is extremely sensitive towards the common racism regarding his people, and as a result, hates racism in general. However, he's blind towards the fact that his hatred of Romulans is no better than any other form of racism. He doesn't talk about this hatred much, and if Romulans are ever mentioned in a conversation, he normally attempts to change the subject or avoid the conversation if at all possible. When brought into contact with a Romulan, he will avoid them at all costs, for fear that his violent nature will take over. Despite his darker side, Saket also has a very likeable nature. Since leaving the Romulan prison camp, he has developed a strong need to express himself, and is a dedicated visual artist, although music doesn't fascinate him much. Since he was 12, he's never had friends or family as we define them, so he's phenomenally loyal to anyone willing to be his friend. He has also developed a respect for nature, rooting from his sympathy for animals and jealousy of plants.
