A long time ago-in the mists of the 23rd century of man-a Starfleet vessel came into contact with an emerging race akin to that of the science fiction novels of 20th century Earth. These people were the Huanni-a proud and feeling race of engineers, philosophers and free spirits. Quickly added to the Federation as protectorates and aided with their development of advanced warp drive (know to them as "Dark-light Drive), they soon became proud members of the mighty galactic civilization. Yet, for the most part, the Huanni remained separate from the naval force known as Starfleet-only a hand full of their kin traversing to Earth to become members of the organization.
But soon after their first contact with the Federation, and after the bonds of friendship had grown close, the Federation learned of the terrible secret of Huan's past-the Falorians. Upon what would later be referred to only as "The Falorian Incident", the Federation-and more specifically the late Captain James T. Kirk-discovered the species who called themselves the Falorians, and of how the Huanni had lied of their dark and disturbed past.
Almost thrown from the Federation, the Huan were placed on probation, their technological development, though advanced, was no longer aided by the Federation and all trade between them ceased. A peaceful cold war seemed to be placed upon the two, no shots were fired, but the space dividing them was colder than vacuum. And so it was, the Federation ties with the Huanni becoming weaker by the day.
Soon it is the 24th century, and the Huanni broke all ties with the Federation until such time as its government deemed such a relationship in the people's best interest. And it was at this time, that the Dominion set up shop in the Alpha quadrant and began their war of conquest. With hundreds of thousands dieing each year the Huanni feared for their safety and prayed for their kin, thus becoming invisible in the stellar night as the light of war consumed all. But the war ended, and the silence of the night was broken; it was time to let the Huanni people ask again to be counted amongst the few. It was out of a sense of pride and guilt that they asked for readmission, having many believe that if they had served on the Starfleet vessels they might have helped save millions of innocent lives.
Two decades before the fires of war claimed the lives of many beings in the Alpha Quadrant, Keth Nakali Soban of Domain Soban was born in to a warm and caring family. Without a brother or sister to grow up with, the young Soban was provided with the full support of his parents and their affections-and they did their jobs as parents well. He developed a keen interest in the biological sciences of his people and soon he began applying for positions at various academies across the face of Huan. He studied with his full energies and graduated towards the top of his class, specializing in trauma treatment techniques and a rare degree in the study of Xenobiology. This one degree, and his interest in the stars and the history of his people began to worry his parents, friends and his tutors as looking into the past would bring him into close contact with the Federation and the Falorian's.
The year was 2373 by the human calendar, and the Dominion War had settled into high gear. The Huanni bunkered down to weather the storm, the goring pangs of guilt setting in to begin the metamorphosis from drawn pacifists to guilt driven activists. During this time, Keth continued his studies, and applied for the position of medi on a short-range picket vessel in the Huanni Space Force. His parents disapproved the action as Dominion and Federation battle lines drew close to the peaceful solar system they called home. Throwing caution to the wind the young man of now twenty years of age was assigned to the picket ship Razors Kiss, a small vessel that would be hardly a match for anything smaller than an asteroid, but he served with the fullest fury of his heart.
The war never found Huan, and the war never took any Huanni lives from enslavement, planetary bombardment, or any action taken on land or in the dark of space. But lives were lost. Millions… Billions… And six.
Six Huanni lost their lives wearing the uniform of Starfleet, six brave men and woman who gave their lives for a cause worth fighting for; a cause worth dieing for.
And so, as the Federation leaned backing a state of shock from the ravaging war that had torn it asunder, the Huanni people looked into them selfs, and seeing the black pit in each they threw aside their doubts and fears, and as one asked for the Federations forgiveness.
A year later the Federation installed them as a Federation member world again, yet still only a few Huanni were among those in Starfleet-and fewer still wished to join, as the prospect of dieing far from the lands of their kin was a terrifying thought that paralyzed many of the cat-like people.
One such individual was Lieutenant Keth Nakali Soban, who was one of ten Huanni charged by the ruling body of Huanni (The Huanni Assembly) of being the diplomats of the Huanni people and the avengers the Martyrs of Huan. And so with his parents angered, his friends telling him of the woe's he would face, and the public against them, the ten Huanni chosen to apply for Starfleet left aboard the only long range vessel the Huanni had left to them-the Tiger Claw. The Tiger Claw was the fastest vessel still in operation within the Huanni navy, and the last time it's mighty engines had been fired was well over three centuries before hand, but still it roared to life and fled towards the star of Sol with it's cargo of hopeful beings.
The Tiger Claw reached Earth in two days travelling at warp 9, but soon after that it was clear half of the Huanni chosen would be returning with the Tiger Claw to their families. Keth was not one of them and went onto Starfleet where he flourished under his new teachers and fellow officers. He was at first seen as a curiosity-as he was not one of the mainstream species of the Federation-and he stood out like a sore thumb.
He continue his studies at the Betazoid academy of Xenobiology as part of a Starfleet medical exchange program. He found his time there to be of much progress in knowledge and in personal growth. Everyone around him seemed able to expect him for a person, and not a curiosity. He felt more at home than ever before amongst the tall, lush-green forests of Betazed and soon discovered a keen interest in the art of growing small seeds into what ever forms they took.
After his time on Betazed of one standard year, he was assigned to the USS Devon, an Oberth-class science vessel on a mission of exploration. The aging ship was struck down by numerous power cuts and many accidents-due to a shortage of repair parts following the Dominion War-and soon he was promoted to full Lieutenant status after an accident resulted in the death of the Ship's CMO.
After a year and half the Devon limped into Utopia Planitia fleet yards around the dusty world of Mars where her keel had first been laid out in dock, and would now be recycled or revamped. He was then placed in limbo, unable to go home and unable to find a place in the fleet for a man of his abilities and his rareness-rareness the admiralty felt they needed to protect to make sure that the Huanni people stayed members of the Federation.
At this time the Sentinel was requesting officers, and Keth Nakali Soban was assigned to the vessel as one of her Medical Officers…
The furred Huanni are a boiling pot of emotions. The have little control over their emotions, and most of the time such emotions tend to get the better of them. When they are angered they lash out, and when they are happy they celebrate with glee and mirth. The same is said for their anger, for their passions are not the only things they cannot control. An angered Huanni can be a danger unto themselves-and their allies around them-lashing out as a crazed animal would when hurt, when fearing or when boiled to an angry rage. Though considered pacifists, these technologically-advanced beings are still susceptible to the ancient instinct breed into them as they grew as a race from primordial ooze to bipedal humanoids. He is a friendly out going man who likes a joke, and is on occasion the butt of one due to his energetic manner, and ramblings of thoughts. This has made him friends, enemies, and many on lookers.
