"The USS Bloembergen left Starbase 818 for the very first time yesterday, heading for Deep Space 9 and on to the Wilderness for discovery and exploration. While I had hoped we would make it there in fine fashion, only discovering a few flaws, it seems the Prophets have other plans for us.
"Barely eighteen hours into our trek and we received a distress signal. I gave the order to change course for intercept at maximum warp. After a brief wait, we discovered it was a Ferengi Marauder. Initial scans showed several key systems were non-operational, including engines and shields, but with other key systems in full operation, such as communicarions and weapons. My Executive Officer, Lieutenant Commander Sanehouse, recommended to lead an Away Team to help exact repairs. I had some reservations, due to my past dealings with the Ferengi, but could not ignore the Prime Directive, so I reluctantly agreed with Commander Sanehouse.
"Immediately after he and the Chief Tactical Officer, Ensign Pereira, beamed over, the Ferengi shields went up and moved to attack us, damaging several of our systems, most notably our phasers and warp engines. We were able to move away out of their phaser range with the Ferengi chasing us. Once repairs were made to the phaser banks and shield grid, I have ordered us to turn about and attack the Ferengi ship directly. Insofar, we are dealing them incredible damage, even punching a hole in their Aft shields, allowing the way for us to disable their engines and grant us a way to secure a boarding party to rescue our kidnapped officers. I have assigned Lieutenant Greystone, the Chief Engineer and Acting Executive Officer, to lead the Away Team. May the Prophets be with Commander Sanehouse and his team, likewise with Lieutenant Greystone and his, not to mention all those aboard the USS Bloembergen. End Log."
