Fighters of the USS Charleston NCC-70570

Razor Class Interceptor

Near the end of the Dominion war, some people in Starfleet began to ask for Fighters and Attack craft with longer ranges. These could be used to patrol the space near planets and starbases, and even for Starships if their sensors were offline from battle damage. The crew of the USS Tolkien put forth specs for a longrange fighter, the Razor Class.

Construction History:

January: CO and crew of the USS Tolkien submits a brief for a third class of Attack Fighter. General brief is as follows. Longrange, small, well armed, maneuverable craft, able to mass together to attack a target from several different directions, or scout/patrol if needed. Capable of a maximum of warp 4 and fitted with shields and weapons.

Febuary: ASDB approved the general idea. Design work begins at Antares Fleet Yards. J-Type phaser designed for the class to increase firepower.

April: Design work is completed and prototype begins construction. Basic space frame is laid out according to the design. Mini computer core installed. Rogue class Micro Cochrane engine is used in the Class.

May: Warp engine is fitted, however to allow for longer flight times, maximum speeds fall. Computer core is deemed operational and basic testing on the Fighter begins.

June: Ship passes all regulatory control and proceeds with testing.

July: Ship is proved to be operational and Starfleet examines the performance. The fighter is commissioned and Starfleet places an order for 430 Fighers to be distributed within the Federation.

Broadsword Class Fighter

In a recent attack on the colony of Rosevelt 6, a Marine detachment from the USS Tolkien-A came under heavy fire from peregrine fighters, and, having no air support available, this resulted in the detachment taking heavy casualties. This highlighted a need for the SFMC to have a versatile fighter capable of providing air support to it's ground troops. The Marine CO, the then Captain Sykes, of the USS Tolkien-A put forth specs for a new multi-role fighter, the Broadsword Class.

Construction History:

January: CO and crew of the USS Tolkien submits a brief for a fourth class of fighter. General brief is as follows. Well armed space-superiority fighter also capable of entering a planets atmosphere and able to give fire support to troops on the ground. Must be a highly maneuverable craft, capable be handling a multitude of roles and attacking a variety of targets. Must be able to achieve a maximum of warp 6 for a short period of time and fitted with shields and weapons.

February: ASDB approved the general idea. Design work begins at Avalon Fleet Yards.

April: Design work is completed and prototype begins construction. Basic space frame is laid out according to the design. Mini computer core installed. A "heavy" version of the Micro Cochrane engine is used in the Class.

May: Warp engine is fitted, because of the increased size and mass, the fighter experiences a sharp drop in the maximum time at warp past warp 2. Computer core is deemed operational and basic testing on the Fighter begins.

June: Ship passes all regulatory control and proceeds with testing.

July: Ship is proved to be operational and Starfleet examines the performance. The fighter is commissioned and Starfleet places an order for 290 Fighters to be distributed within the Federation.

Technical Specifications:
Classification: Multi-Role Strike Fighter
Design: Broadsword Class
Crew: 2: 1 Pilot, 1 Gunner
Structure: Duranium with added Ablative Armour Matrix.
Length: 18 meters
Height: 4 meters
Width: 12 meters

Warp Systems:
Power: Matter/Antimatter Reactor (dilithium mediated)
Nacelles: 2
Normal Cruising Warp:
Warp 1
Maximum Cruising Warp: Warp 2
Warp Jump Speed: Warp 6

Time allowed in warp:
Warp 1: 10 days
Warp 2: 4 days
Warp 6: 20 minutes
Impulse Systems:
Power: Fusion
Engines : 2

Tactical Systems:
Phasers: (4) Type-U+ Micro-pulse phaser cannon dual mounted on wing tips
Photon/Quantum Micro-Torpedoes Type: Mk II
Location: Right and Left Lower Wing
Casings: 12 warheads

This Fighter also has the capability to carry weapons pods. There are five different variations of pod available to the pilot dependent upon role assigned:

1: Heavy Fighter: No pod, this is a default setting for the fighter and gives the best performance from onboard systems

2: Assault Fighter: Two Type-J phasor emitter's shoulder mounted forward of Impulse Engines, slightly reduces manoeuvrability (See Razor fighter for Spec's on Type J)

3: Light Bomber: Micro Tri-Cobalt launcher, under slung forward of Impulse Engines, 8 warheads, has a negative effect on manoeuvrability; therefore the fighter should be escorted by faster craft

4: Light Bomber 2: 6 full sized Photon/Quantum Torpedoes under the wings. This has an adverse effect upon the fighters manoeuvrability and should only be considered when placed in a bomber role (also see notes for 3)

Also: The fighter has six hard points under the wings and fuselage. These can carry any standard Starfleet ordinance, but the fighter cannot carry any other pod at the same time as these hard points are used, these are used in weapon configuration 4

Shields: Grid-projected (TDS)/Distance-projected.

Transporters: 1 x 2-person Emergency Transporter
