Chief Helm/Astronavigation Officer: It is the duty of the Chief Helm/Astronavigation Officer to manage the sub-departments of Helm and Astronavigation, which make up the Flight Control Department. S/he also is a department head and a member of the senior staff, responsible for all the crew members in her/his department and duty rosters. In the Chief Helm Officer role, s/he is the vessel's pilot. S/he is responsible for the ship's course and heading adn advises the CO/XO of any navigational hazards that may be in the ship's path.

Assistant Chief Helm Officer: The Assistant Chief Helm Officer assists the Chief of Helm/Astronavigation in the daily work; in issues regarding Helm and any administrative matters. As and if required the Assistant Chief Helm Officer must be able to take command of the Helm/Astronavigation department.

Assistant Chief Astronavigation Officer: The Assistant Chief Astronavigation Officer assists the Chief of Helm/Astronavigation in the daily work; in issues regarding Astronavigation and any administrative matters. As and if required the Assistant Chief Astronavigation Officer must be able to take command of the Helm/Astronavigation department.

Helm Officer: There are several Helm Officers aboard of each vessel. They are assigned to their duties by the Chief of Helm/Astronavigation and his/her Assistant Chief and mostly work shifts on the bridge at the CONN.

Astronavigation Officer: The Astronavigation Officer is a Helm Officer who has chosen to specialize in a specific role. S/he is responsible for plotting the ship's course and avoiding navigational hazards. The Astronavigation Officer works closely with the Stellar Cartographer and the Astrometrics Specialist.
