This year's 50 Miler was probably one of the most challenging 50's in the history of Troop 253. But it was probably one of the greatest learning experiences for those who participated. We learned a lot about teamwork and friendship. I think all of us learned a lot about each other and about ourselves.
Along with these learning experiences, there were some others that can be improved on for next year at Trinity. One was in some of the preparations. We didn't have as many prep hikes as we should have due to a short amount of time before the trip so some of us left on the outing with only 30 miles or so of preparation. This may or may not have made the hike any harder or easier for those attending but all of us kept plugging away at it. One other preparation adjustment we can make next year is to make sure and have accurate maps. This year we had a bit of a problem on Monday when the trail disappeared and we had to take an alternate route that was a bit more strenuous than we would have liked.
Some of the good points were the Scouts Own for one. It was a time for all of us to gather around the campfire and play games and sing songs and Just enjoy each other's company. It was a lot of fun.
All in all everyone seemed to have a good time and while we sat around the table enjoying our pizza no one seemed discouraged but seemed more reassured that they could do anything if they set their minds to it. Everyone had a great sense of accomplishment and the whole experience strengthened us when we got back "home."
WE SURVIVED MOKELUMNE WILDERNESS!!! 100 Km!!! .62 mi. !!!
