Chapter 2

the voices come to the king

The king lay in his bed chamber, satin bed-sheets covering him. And then a voice came to him, at first it was small, faint as a mouse, but then it grew, until it was as trumpets blowing in his ears,

"Your people need you, what are you going to do?"

He didn't know what was going on, he was a good enough king, he didn't behead people as his father did, and his advisors said that the whole kingdom was perfect. But what he didn't see was coyote in the sheepskins of the advisors, they were deceiving him, while they spoke of wealth and prosperity, the town lay in poverty and shambles. The villagers thought that this was the kings works, to keep all wealth for him, so they had grown cold and bitter to him, blaming all problems on him.

The king did not know of this, and he was frightened by the voices. And he did what was, well at least what he thought was sensible, he called in his chief advisor to tell of the voices. The advisor came in, and when the king told of this, he frowned and said that it was nothing to fear, probably his mind playing tricks on him. The king believed this and then went back to sleep.

When the advisor got out of the room. He went down the corridors, making his way through the maze until he got to the room. He looked to his left, and then to his right, he saw nothing, so he opened the door, he did it very gently as not to make anyone wake up. The room was normal size, there was a chair, a couch, and a bench, a fire was burning in the fireplace, and there was a small bookcase. The advisor went strait for the bookcase, and pulled a large one out, it had a gold outlined cover and it was pretty thick. He then went to the chair, sat down and flipped to a page, he started to read the old text:

There will be then great deception, with Chaos by it's side, death and destruction.

The king will be no use; the force of evil will have lain him to. And this will be all that the world sees. The king will then start having visions, visions of the truth, and there will then be a huge war, at great cost, but in the end it will be won by light.

He read this, put the book away, and then he exited the room. He had read this 400 times, but still it had been interesting to read. He had to get back to work, he went down the hallway and back off to work.

"What is this place?" The king thought as he walked through, it was a desolate land in which the people were dirt poor, and they were living in the dust and dirt. He could barely look at these people, he tried to look away, but every time he did, he heard a voice hollering out to him "Look at your people, they need you, and what are you going to do." The king thought, "How can this be so, the people in the kingdom that I rule over is prosperous, and it doesn't have any poverty. He said this, when he did, the voice boomed,

"Lies! Lies! These are your people, help them!"

A woman carrying a load finally collapsed from the wait, he went over to help her, but he woke up from the dream.

He bolted up, he was sweating and his heart was racing. He didn't know what that dream meant,

"That was just a dream," He thought "It must be, my kingdom lives with wealth, not poor quality, but still, I have never had a dream that was so clear, and was so real. I'll investigate this in the morning."

Chapter 3 The dream shows all He then went back to sleep. In the morning, he woke up, and then went to the dining hall where breakfast was going to be served. He saw his wife, and two sons were already there. They were waiting for him. When he got into the room and sat down. They began to eat their breakfast. When they had finished, the king said to his advisors that he wanted to go through one of the villages that day.

The Chief advisor replied to his request, "Great king, you do not want to go to the village today, umm, you have things to do here, at the castle"

The king was going to argue back, but the advisor was right, he had to do things at the castle before touring the villages today, it was his job as a ruler to. He got up, and then went to his throne. When he was there, matters were placed in front of him, and he deciphered this, and gave answers to the problems. The day went by and soon was gone, it was night, and he went to his bed. He pulled the satin covers over him and then was soon asleep. He had another dream.

The king walked down a road, and at the end, he saw people falling down from exhaustion. He went to help them, but when they saw who he was, rudely backed away. Then another voice boomed, "Go to your village, see your people" he replied, "My advisors tell me what the world is like." The voice boomed, "Go to your village SEE your people" He then woke up.

He thought, "What does this mean, what should I do?" He was frightened by these dreams, and he could not go back to sleep. He got up, and then walked out of the room, and began pacing up and down to corridor. An advisor saw him, and came over, he said,

"What is the matter, king?"

The king replied, "Take me to my village, NOW!"

The advisor was apparently thrown off by this, he told, "A-a-are you sure you want to do this?"

The king was growing frustrated, "Do it now!"

"Yes" the advisor said weakly

Chapter 4 The truth unravels and the deceiver is out The king was soon in the cabbie. And it was off. It soon arrived at a village and then went through the streets, it was as the dreams told him, everything was in poverty, there were people falling down from exhaustion. They saw the king, and then coldly turned away, and others gave him mean stares.

The king was horrified by this, and said, "Who could have caused such a horror?!"

One of the villagers said, "You"d

This shocked the king, and he had his driver take him back to the castle. When he got there he walked to his room, and he saw his chief advisor with a book in his hand.

The king said, "I went down to one of the villages, there is poverty"

The advisor said, "Oh, that is the poorest village, and those are just the slaves"

But the king knew better, his dreams were clear and he knew that his advisor was lying, "No, that is a lie"

"What are you talking aobut?" the advisor said, trying to keep the truth away.

"There is poverty in every village, isn't there? I have been told of this." The king replied

"No there isn't, king, and with all due respect, I think you are going crazy" the advisor told.

"No I am not! Guards! Take him away!"

The guards quickly came, and tried to pull the advisor away, he tried to struggle, but it wasn't enough, a page ripped out of the book he was holding and he was being pulled down the hall.

The advisor struggled even more, and then he shouted back, " Wait and see! This is only the beginning of what is to happen!"

The king picked up the book, which the advisor was holding, it was opened to a page, the king began to read it. He read about the evil one, and the pending war that was going to happen. He read up until the ripped out page, and he thought to himself. He went to get the troops ready.

Chapter Five: A kingdom divided

“Please, the kingdom hangs in the balance” The king was begging to a group of people that had gathered just for the joy to see the king in a time of desperation.

“Ha! The crazy king has snapped!” A voice from the crowd sneered the once noble king. A few cold laughs followed.  “Why should we believe you!” The villager told a rhetorical question.

“Yeah, whenever one of the advisors come out of the castle, it is only to our undoing, either paying more of our crops, work, or money, we’re fed up!” Another person told.

The king tried to tell the people of the story about what had happened, but when he had finished, the people started to laugh, showing their obvious disbelief in this story. When he had lost all hope of being able to get the kingdom to fight. One voice rose up from the crowd, “I believe you” A man with a hideous scar on his arm emerged from the crowd, he walked up to the king, and started to talk to the crowd, “People! Who has deceived us for all these years, who has came out of the castle tricking us, the advisors!”

A voice came up in defense of crowd, “But they came in the name of the king!”

“They said they came in the name of the king, we burn people as heretics, for saying what isn’t the truth, they could have been heretics also. The king never came out here and told us these bad terms, they could have easily have been lying.” The man walked back into the crowd, and the crowd began to dissipate after this speech. The king went back to the castle.

When the king got back, he was tired from this day of trying to convince people to join him; he went strait to bed.

The king had another dream that night, not of prophecy, but of a memory. In this dream, he was but a kid, exploring the castle for hidden rooms and passageways. He got to one room, he creaked the door open just a little, as he did at all the rooms so that he made sure that it wasn’t a bedroom of a chambermaid. When he looked through the small opening, he saw a horrible image; the advisor had a chambermaid at knifepoint, talking to him telling him that if he didn’t comply, then he would die. The prince (he was a prince at the time) quickly closed the door, and stood there, too scared to move. The door clicked open, and the advisor emerged from the room, blood dripping from his hands, the king ducked, and waited for the advisor to get out of view, until he walked into the room, he looked into the room, and saw the chambermaid, which had an arm that was bleeding, the prince backed up, and started running down the hall as fast as he could in the opposite direction of the advisor. The king tossed and turned in bed at this horrible nightmare. He remembered how he had drowned out this thought. And how for the many years, he had danced around this hole, which he knew that he would eventually fall into and have to face this memory. He then realized that that very moment, the man with the scar, was the man that had rose up in defense of the king that day. The king decided to go to the person’s house in the morning.
