Dancing Satyr to expose himself in Tokyo for the 1st time!

The Dancing Satyr, a bronze statue miraculously retrieved from the Mediterranean Sea off Sicily, Italy, in 1998 after lying on the seabed for about 2,000 years, will be put on display at the Tokyo National Museum in Taito Ward from Feb. 19 to March 13.
The statue's wavy hair, faraway look and body brimming with vigor have the power to overwhelm its viewers.
The statue will also be on display during the 2005 Aichi World Exposition...

Found in translation
The translation of laws and ordinances into foreign languages would facilitate international business and promote investment by foreign companies. It would also help support the establishment of legal systems in developing countries, especially those in Asia, introduce and increase knowledge of Japanese legislation in other countries, and familiarize foreign residents with life in Japan.
At present, only a few translations of official legislation are posted at the Web sites of individual government offices, such as the English version of the Constitution by the Prime Minister's Office, the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Law by the Ministry of Justice....

The so-called "translations" of the Japanese immigration laws are famous for the total LACK of any detail. It is 101% immpossible to take a Japanese immigration law, point to a detail and demand redress. The immigration law is only 25 or so pages but the secret adminstrative guidelines run tens of thousands of pages. ---Taro

Swallowing a roll of toilet paper, murderer remains quiet

Man arrested over murders fails in tissue suicide bid

OMUTA, Fukuoka -- A man under arrest in connection with the murder of four here had attempted to kill himself by swallowing a massive amount tissue paper in a detention cell at a local police station, prefectural police said.
Following the incident, he was rushed to hospital where he refused to be treated. He has since kept silent about why he swallowed paper.

...Tokyo hotel is charging for the "Hedonist Dinner" this December. The pricetag? $13,000.
The Hotel Seiyo Ginza in Tokyo enlisted wine expert Robert M. Parker Jr. and legendary (and previously semi-retired) French chef Joel Robuchon to plan the feast. The wine list will feature eight rare historical wine---including an 1864 Lafite and a 1961 Latour a Pomerol (total bar tab: $200,000, according to Christie's). Just 22 seats are available, and the hotel will confirm only that "several" are filled and that it expects the meal to sell out.

I'm told that a watermelon comes close, and a bushelful of zucchini can make you take notice. But the pumpkin is surprisingly concussive when it smacks dirt. Now, imagine a whole bellyload of pumpkins tumbling from a bomber and raining upon the target, striking within microseconds of each other: "Fwump, fwump... Fwump! Fwump-whump...!"
