"Give me speed,

How fast will it go?

Can it get me, over her quickly, 0 to 60

Can it outrun her memory?"

Tail of The Dragon October 2003
Our trip took us to the famed U.S. 129 in southeastern Tennessee and leading into western North Carolina to a road menacingly known as The Tail Of The Dragon. The beginning of the The Tail Of The Dragon is at this overlook which offers these spectacular vistas of Calderwood Lake and Calderwood Dam.

Toward the beginning of the Cherahala Skyway, John and Clay stop to strike a pose and reflect upon the ride of their lifetimes, so far.

The Cherahala Skyway offers some awe-inspiring views of the western North Carolina mountains and valleys. We couldn't resist stopping and taking in the scenery from North Carolina's most expensive road. Over $100,000,000 to build and we couldn't be happier with the results.

The "skyway" as it is known, offers some great curves to lean into, along with numerous pullovers to stop and take in the views and enjoy a break.

A couple of more incredible views of the leaves just beginning to turn in the autumn hills of Carolina.

Clay recovers from a much needed restroom (shrub) break. Next, Clay rides in hard on the Cherahala Skyway as he tries to brake for the camera. And yet more views from the mountaintops. At certain points along the Cherahala Skyway, you find yourself more than a mile above sealevel.

Nearing the end of the the "skyway", we stop to enjoy our last views from the higher altitudes as we were about to begin our descent into Tellico Plains, Tennessee and the journey south on U.S. 68 towards northern Georgia.

Here, we stopped to wipe the rain from our faceshields near Wayah Bald on Wayah Road. The pelting rain was cold on this mountain and created extremely slippery road conditions. We survived about two and half hours of this weather before reaching our room at the Microtel in Robbinsville, North Carolina.
