Mary McDonald (Tobias wife) was born in New Castle Co., Delaware,the records of New Castle Co.,were searched & it has been discovered that Tobias Smidt was born March 16,1724 and he was baptized March 21, 1724 in the Holy Trinity Church or more commonly known as the Old Swedes Church in Wilmington,New Castle,Delaware.His parents being Hans George (Jurgen) Smidt/Smitt & Maria Stalcop.He had a brother named Ericus who was born May 31,1734 & we believe this is the Ericus who signed his name in the prayer book.On page 424 of records of Old Swedes Church ,Rev. Israel Acrelius,the parish priestwrote in 1749 ,"I have bought a number of Swedish psalm books in the same style with the approval of the Archbishop,& as they seem to be in demand on account of the style,I have written for more,& also humbly requested that the books be sent here after May,this making the instruction of the youth more easy.My successors who will reap the harvest of this,I hope will never deviate from this,and also will earnestly endeavor to keep up the knowledge of the Swedish Language,their mother tongue,which is now much declined." It is believed that Ericus had one of these Swedish psalm books and signed his name in it.Tobias & two of his brothers,Frederick & Ericus left New Castle Delaware and went to Augusta County,Virginia.Tobias was in Augusta County as early as 1749: Frederick was there in 1752: and Ericus was there in 1770.

7. George Smyth,Was born Nov. 12,1754 in Augusta Co.,Va. He died March 6,1809 in Washington Co.,Va.
