The davidson Surname is Scottish! There are many different forms of the name davidson.
The settelement of ulster saw an influx of davidsons from the borders and from elswhere in scotland.

Samuel's father was Daniel Davidson, b. cica 1752-1753 in Virginia.
This Davidson line decends from the immigrant John Davidson b. circa 1678 in Scotland.
He immigrated from Ulster Ireland to Philadelphia and obtained land in 1720 in Spottsylvania Co. VA.
Samuel was about 19 when the first child was born in 1799 and 65 when the last was born in 1845.
Samuel and Mary lived in Kentucky until 1841 when they pioneered into Andrew Co. MO with 17 of the children.
Only Daniel stayed behind and the last 2 were yet to be born in MO.
Interesting to note that Samuel and two of his sons all married Wilson sisters as their second wives.
Mahala Wilson was an aunt to Mary. As prolific as this group was, it was necessary to quickly marry upon the
death of a wife so that there was someone to raise the children. Samuel married Mary in 1822,
the same year that Elizabeth died.Several of the second ten migrated into Page and Taylor counties of
Iowa dropping a "d" in their name to become Davison's.
