The Federation

The Federation is a large alliance of planets spanning 8,000 light years with more than 150 member worlds. The Federation does not usually capture territory, instead it allows those who own the territory to join. The Federation has nations inside its borders which have not joined because of the way it runs. The Federation is located mainly in the Alpha Quadrant although some of it 'spills over' into the Beta Quadrant. The Federation was formed in 2161 after the Earth-Romulan War of 2156-2160. The Federation's founders were Earth, Vulcan, the Tellerites, the Andorians and the Alpha Centurians. (Note: The Alpha Centurians are actually human colonists.) Although extremely peaceful the Federation has engaged in wars with such species as the Cardassians, the Dominion, the Klingons, and others.

Federation History

Because of the broad variety of species in the Federation I have broken this down into three main parts. The history of the humans before 2161, the history of Vulcans before 2161 and the history of the Federation post-2161.
