I first dived in the Red Sea in 1987 with a friend of mine Marku Karvonen from Finland when we were both working in Afif (almost the middle of Saudi Arabia). The reefs north of Jeddah were pristine and polution free, sadly this is no longer the case (See photo below).
Above, Karen swims by the pinnacle north of "Blue Beach" whilst above heavy machinery destroys the reef edge for building concrete jetties and causing severe silting, resulting in poor vizability and once settled, coral death.
