The Starfleet Marine Corps was established sometime in the 23rd century to provide troops for boarding actions and small ground assaults. Under the commands of Mason Storm and Lukas Forbrel, the SFMC grew quite quickly, and under the command of its current commanding general, Jeremiah Neill, it has earned the nickname "the Army of the Federation".
The Starfleet Marine Corps was placed under the jurisdiction of Military Operations by Fleet Admiral Joshua Underwood on December 30, 2390.
Jeremiah Robert Neill
Nicknames: Jer, J.R., Starfleet's Stonewall
Rank: Commanding General
Position: SFMC Commander, CO U.S.S. Sulaco
General Neill has been a professional soldier most of his life, from joining the Reydovan Imperial Marine Corps in 2328 to becoming its commander in 2376, which he served until he joined the SFMC in 2390. After the arrest of the psychotic Major General Mikhail Britanov, Neill became commander of the Ground Operations division in November 2390. He became Commanding General Forbrel's XO in January 2391, and succeeded Forbrel as Commanding General when he retired on February 1, 2391.
Neill is often referred to as "Starfleet's Stonewall", for his ways of maintaining discipline and winning decisive victories are often compared to the tactics of Confederate General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. Neill often says that, like Jackson, he does not believe the nickname is his, but it belongs to the men he commands.
Tesia Marie Mackenzie
Nicknames: Mac, Mac Attack (given by General Neill)
Rank: General
Position: SFMC Deputy Commander, CO U.S.S. Meramec
The eldest of the Mackenzie twins, Tesia distinguished herself at the seemingly-undesirable post of commanding officer of Deep Space 9, and she was chosen to succeed Jeremiah Neill as commander of the Ground Operations division. In December 2390, she was approached by Vice Admiral Frank Ramsey about the Andromeda Expedition. Two months into the trip, however, the Expedition was forced to turn back due to the fact that Andromeda had been obliterated by some sort of "evil power" during the Chaos War. When the war ended, Mackenzie was chosen to be General Neill's XO when he assumed command of the SFMC on February 1, 2391.
General Neill has nicknamed her "Mac Attack" for her fighting spirit, which he believes all commanders should possess.
William Scott McWarren
Nicknames: W.S., William the Shipbuilder (given by BAdm. Joshua Underwood)
Rank: Lieutenant General
Position: Chief of Starfleet Operations
General McWarren is the younger brother of Federation President Herbert McWarren, who made his way through the ranks not through his brother's influence, but by hard work and determination, and an engineering genius unseen by anyone in Starfleet. In addition to the high standing with General Neill for his engineering skills, the general has the respect and admiration of Brigadier Admiral Joshua Underwood, the Deputy Commander-in-Chief, who nicknamed him "William the Shipbuilder" for the speed in which he churned out thirteen hundred ships at Beta Antares Fleet Yards following the Strogg War. McWarren applied to become the Chief of Starfleet Operations on February 21, 2391, and a week later was appproved by Admiral Underwood at the behest of Flag Admiral Syke Matrix.
Jackson Z. Dane
Nickname: Jax
Rank: Major General
Position: Commander of Ground Operations Division, CO U.S.S. Defiant-A
General Dane is considered somewhat flamboyant and reckless, qualities that - combined with some knowledge of tactics - make him one of Neill's best commanders. Serving with General Mackenzie on DS9, Jax was chosen to accompany her on the Andromeda Expedition, commanded by Vice Admiral Frank Ramsey. When it was forced to turn back, Jax and the Defiant-A fought true to the general's reputation for recklessness, alongside Neill's Sulaco during the Chaos War. When it was over, Neill gave Jax command of the Ground Ops division in the place of Mackenzie, who had been appointed Neill's XO.
Jax has commented at least once that due to his somewhat reckless and flamboyant nature, he did not expect to go any higher than Colonel. General Neill commented, "I don't need generals with flagpoles up their asses, I need generals who can FIGHT."
Artimus Devaneaux
Nicknames: Art, Dev
Rank: Brigadier General
Position: Attache to General Neill, CO U.S.S. Stonewall Jackson
General Devaneaux is the father of Admiral Kieran Devaneaux, one of Fleet Admiral Joshua Underwood's best commanders. He joined the Starfleet Marine Corps as a Lieutenant Colonel in December 2390. He was promoted to Colonel in January 2391, and to Brigadier General following the end of the Chaos War. His rank nonwithstanding, Devaneaux has always been at the side of General Jeremiah Neill through thick and thin. During the charge on the plains of Montagne Noire on February 1, 2391, Devaneaux led forces under Neill's direct command into the fray when Neill was wounded by snipers. After Neill was promoted and had healed from his wounds, Devaneaux returned to the general's side.
Anatoliy Britanov
Nickname: Spawn of Disgrace (given by general public)
Rank: Brigadier General
Position: Head of Presidential Security
General Britanov is the only son of the disgraced Major General Mikhail Britanov, who was executed for genocide and high treason in November 2390. He is the exact opposite of his father - quiet and usually non-violent - unless there's some kind of battle underway, during which he fights with brute force and bloodlust. Then-Major General Neill, disgusted with Britanov's apparent thirst for blood, made him head of Presidential security for Herbert McWarren - something Neill knew that McWarren would not need, considering that the President is perfectly capable of handling himself.
Anatoliy Britanov is often called the Spawn of Disgrace because of his father's actions. He tries to distinguish himself from his father, but the familial ties often are his undoing.
Lani Mackenzie
Nickname: Little Mac (given by Gen. Neill)
Rank: Colonel
Position: Commanding Officer, Starbase Deep Space Nine
Colonel Mackenzie is the younger of the Mackenzie twins and the current commander of Deep Space Nine, a seemingly out-of-the-way outpost long held by the Starfleet Marine Corps. Lani spent a good deal of her SFMC service as a First Lieutenant during her tour of duty on DS9, then commanded by her sister, Tesia Mackenzie. When Tesia and much of the Marine compliment of DS9 was chosen by Vice Admiral Ramsey for the Andromeda Expedition, Lani was also chosen to accompany them, and given a long-overdue promotion to Lieutenant Colonel by then-Lieutenant General Neill, the Corps XO. When Neill became Corps CO in 2391, he promoted Lani to full Colonel and chose her to assume command of Deep Space Nine in the place of her sister, now the Corps XO.
Neill calls Lani "Little Mac" to distinguish her from her sister, since one is often confused for the other.
