This is dedicated to the United States Marines of Company L, 3d Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force. I served with them in the war against Iraq, and they are some of the finest men I have ever met. Most, I have known since I was a Second Lieutenant/Rifle Platoon Commander. We grew up a lot together, and shared some fun and dire times. We streaked across the deserts and cities of Iraq, and stunned the world. These men are in my thoughts everyday.
US Marines have fought well in every war America has been involved in. We were given IT equipment in hopes to fight more efficiently. Much of the equipment did not work the way it was advertised, but the Marines I was with did not use this as an excuse. They did what Marines have done over centuries, they improvised and adapted.
Hopefully with our after-action reports, they can improve the equipment and reduce friendly fire incidents and logistical shortcomings.
The .ppt link below is a 15 minute presentation given in my IT class at NPS. The presentation is a synopsis of how Lima Company used IT during OIF; a one company example of how the Marine Corps has left the Stone Age for the Digital Age.
