Sygate, or Zone Alarm both are Firewalls which prevents unauthorized access to the computer and prevents programs from calling-out without your o.k. Avast or Anti-Vir Anti Virus, programs to help keep things safe. All of these programs will want to call home to update themselves, which is o.k... this is important if you use the internet and need to update them. Consider using FireFox as your internet program ( i.e. browser) rather than Microsoft's Internet Explorer. It is proven safer. Email is fun, but messy. For the computers' safety and spam control do not use the email mailbox given to you by your provider; go to Yahoo or Lycos or Gmail - EXAMPLES - not recommendations and sign up for their free service. |
