Kate was born and raised in the small southern Virginia town of Fredericksburg. A standout student in school, she still had time to wake up at 4 am each day to feed the chickens and milk the cows on her parent's farm. In fourth grade, her pig won first place at the county 4H fair. She finished high school as both class valedictorian and athlete of the year.
In college, Kate majored in the field of biology, favoring genetic research. She joined a sorority and played club soccer, but mostly spent her time studying in the library. After graduation, she began work on a Master's Degree in Forensic Science and held a job at the DNA databank where she routinely worked with blood samples of prison inmates.
Australia was Kate's first major trip off the east coast of the United States. She has dreamed of coming to Australia and cuddling koalas since her 3rd grade diorama project won high accolades and the praise of her teachers.
