My
three kids and I periodically go to Devil's Lake State
Park near Baraboo, WI. I don't like camping at
state parks as there are just too many people there, but once each fall I camp at this
park with my girls and a group of friends. It's a very
busy park but the hiking is unbelievable! I generally
go here just for the day. In the winter, the park
receives much less traffic.
Door
County, WI is one of my favorite places to visit.
Positioned between Lake Michigan and Green Bay, it boast
several state parks and numerous county parks with
spectacular hiking and views of the water. This is a
fire tower in Peninsula State Park which overlooks Green
Bay. Door County is swamped with tourists during the
summer, so we go in spring. Many of the quaint shops are
not yet open but we lose the tourists and gain some solitude.
Another neat park, Newport State Park, has incredible
hiking along miles of secluded waterfront on Lake
Michigan.

This is the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore,
near Bayfield, WI. The water is very cold - even in
August - so swimming is questionable. You'll find
spectacular views of Lake Superior and a great place for
beach-combing. There are sea caves not far from where
this picture was taken. You can hike a 3-4 mile woodland
trail and look down inside of them or you can kayak
into the caves from the lake.
This is Amnicon Falls State Park near Superior,
WI. I've never camped here - it's just a place
we bop through enroute to places north. Really neat
waterfalls throughout! Great place for a lunch
break.
