Eran Dakul came of age on Cardassia Prime not long before the Dominion war. He was getting ready to enter the Cardassian military just as Legate Damar decided to rebel against the Dominion and aid the Federation.

Dakul believed strongly in what Damar was doing and as he was not yet a member of the Cardassian military, he decided follow Damar's lead and enrolled in Starfleet Academy. Although he had  no problems academically with the courses he attended, Dukal faced much hatred and racism towards him.

Unfortunately for Dukal, the Dominion war was over by the time he left the Academy, but he wasn't going to put all that time and effort to waste. So he made the decide to remain within Starfleet. First working on DS9 to reconstruct his fallen world. After two years, he realised that he'd become tired with dealing with the politicians and asked for a transfer.

He was posted aboard the USS Britain as helmsman, where met and served alongside Captain Ryan Evans. Later on he moved across to Security, where through his hard work and dedication, Captain Evans promoted him to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade.

When Captain Ryan was given the Defiant class vessel the USS Ronin, Dukal requested a transfer to follow his Captain and friend. However, Starfleet assigned the Cardassian to the newly commissioned USS Leviathan-A.

Whilst aboard the USS Britain, Dukal had earned the respect of his fellow crewmates, but once aboard the Leviathan, many of the crew resented the fact that there was a Cardassian aboard. Chief amongst these was Rashad T'Kul, a Bajorian\Romulan. Captain Devore, a veteran of the Dominion war tried his best to stamp out the racism, with limited success.

Now having held the position of Security chief, most of the crew have accepted him as just another Starfleet officer. Those that remain hostile are those that suffered at the hand of the Cardassain Union.
