The nearness of his foe dazzled the German pilot as he reached for his Walther PP. The face of a determined MOH_ROGUE at less than 10 meters from his own was more than he could tolerate. The German’s efforts were for naught however, as a motionless Me-109K-4 and a checker tailed Lavochkin La-7, both stalled in the vertical, gently fell away from each other and back towards the sea. Nosed towards earth, both aircraft accelerated rapidly with gravities aid.
Pulling hard on the La-7’s stick, and with G-forces wracking his body, MOH_ROGUE reversed his machine and again climbed into the cloudless Russian sky. “Where is the 109”? MOH_ROGUE asked himself, “where is the bastard!!?” He could feel beads of sweat trickling down his neck and down his back from beneath his brown leather flying helmet. MOH_ROGUE knew that every second counted, that he must latch on or evade his foe, and that the life of one or both of them now hung in the balance.
“Turn” MOH_ROGUE mumbled to himself, “turn”, “the German kite cannot stay with me in the turn!!”. With that thought, MOH_ROGUE, yawed his La-7 to starboard and began the tightest rudder skid turn his aircraft could muster. Shuddering under the increasing strain of the turn, the La-7 responded as MOH_ROGUE commanded. Scouring the sky around him, MOH_ROGUE located the Me-109 struggling to stay with him. “Fool” thought MOH_ROGUE “this devil has not done his homework”. Meter by meter, MOH_ROGUE turned inside the arc of his foe. A veteran of numerous deadly dogfights, ROGUE had been here before. He knew it was only a matter of time……….
As the fates of the two pilots merged, MOH_ROGUE watched amazed as the ruddy faced Me-109 pilot snapped his head around to find the La-7 on his six. Entirely too late, his foe realized that MOH_ROGUE was no rookie but one of the greatest Lavochkin ACES of them all. His fate all but sealed, the German pilot gawked helplessly as his pursuers 3 x 20mm cannons winked impassively at him.
MOH_ROGUE watched as his rounds impacted. Large chunks of tail section and the port wing of the Me-109K-4 sheared from the fuselage and broke apart causing the German aircraft to cascade out of control. Spiraling vertically, the stricken aircraft careened into the Gulf of Finland.
