Gunung Irau (1812m)

Those familiar with Cameron Highlands will surely know this mountain. Because it is short , not very tough and passes through the mossy forest, many people choose this trek for their weekend escape. Much of the trek has been destroyed by hikers boots, and I believe it has one of the worst eroded treks. But people still continue to hike through it despite the exposed roots and deep mud pits.
The start of the trek begins at a sort of open area about 1 km from the peak of Gunung Brinchang. From Brinchang Town, continue until you see the sign board showing the road up to Gunung Brinchang. Follow this road, which is tarred all the way for about 20 - 30  minutes (drive) , until you reach a sort of clear red earth patch on your right. The trek begins just above the red earth wall, and enters the mossy forest almost immediately.

First day.

The hike to Baby Irau (a peak before Gunung Irau) from the car park should take about 2 hours. The trek is very muddy and has a few steep root climbing sections. From Baby Irau, it is about 1.5 hours to Gunung Irau. The trek has a few false peaks as you're walking along the ridge now. Expect a few ups and downs . Irau peak is not very big, perhaps 20 people can cram into it. The ground is exceptionally soggy, especially after rain. From the peak, you can see the telecommunication tower at Gunung Brinchang as well as Kampung Raja. Early in the morning, You will be greeted by a spectacular sunrise, if you get up early enough , that is......

Second day.

The hike out should take about 2-3 hours, depends on how much you care about your knees. Make sure you are on the right path, as there is a fork near the car park which will bring you somewhere else. Water for the trip has to be taken before trekking, as there is no water along the trek. You can get water from The Brinchang Telecommunications station or from the numerous vegetable farms along the tar road.
