PROCEDURE

Based on my experienced and understanding during completing final year project at

Wangsa Maju Earth Station, Kuala Lumpur

1.    Browse Internet (example: www.lyngsat.com) to obtained the available satellite transponder frequencies.

2.    From the given satellite Longitude (example : AsiaSat2 at 100.5 E) and Wangsa Maju Earth Station

Latitude (3 N) and Longitude (101 E), obtained the ‘look angles’.

3.    By using an inclinometer (tool to obtained the accurate angle position), manually adjust the dish antenna

upward (0 to 90 degrees) for Elevation angle and clockwise left and right (0 to 360 degrees) for Azimuth

       angle.

4.    Connect to the Spectrum Analyzer to measured the received signal. Slowly adjust the dish antenna until

beacon signal (highest signal during adjusting) appeared on the Spectrum screen.

5.    Connect to the television in order to ensure the quality of the reception signal.

Note:

From my experienced, satellite tracking is a tough and challenging task. It will takes a lot of times and sometimes I almost feel give up to continued the tracking. It’s really make stressed on me, especially the task is involved in manually adjust a quite big dish antenna (diameter of 2.4m) in a hot day (and sometimes in the raining condition). Patient is an important factor to enable the task successful.
