DIRECTIONS FOR

 HUNTERDON WALKING CLUB WALKS

 

BOWMAN’S HILL WILDFLOWER PRESERVE   

 

From Frenchtown, go over bridge to PA side.  Turn left onto Route 32.  Follow to Washington Crossing Park and Bowman’s Preserve on right.  Follow road to top of hill for parking and trails. 

 

BULL’S ISLAND

 

Take Route 29 South from Frenchtown toward Stockton.  Entrance is on the right; park in lot.  May be muddy if it rains or the ground is wet.  Dress accordingly.

 

CANAL WALK   Riegelsville, PA

 

From Flemington, take Route 12W to Frenchtown.  Cross the Frenchtown bridge and make a right onto Route 32 North.  Take a right onto Route 611 North.   Proceed on 611 North to traffic light.  Make a right at the light onto Delaware Avenue.  Make the next right onto Durham Road (Joe's Pizza on corner) and make a left into parking lot. 

 

 

CHRISTIE HOFFMAN PARK   Califon / Fairmont

 

Califon/Fairmont.  From Clinton take Rt. 513N  through High Bridge, past Voorhees and turn right onto Main St./ Rte.512(liquor store on corner).  Bear right after bridge to stay on 512; go about 3 miles to park on right. 

 

Alternate Route:  From 78 East or West  take exit 24 towards Oldwick and follow Rt. 517 6 miles to Rt. 512 (white church on right & traffic light).  Turn left at light onto Rt. 512 and follow to park a short distance on left.

 

CLINTON

 

This walk is the back side of Spruce Run Reservoir.  Take Route 78 West to Exit 15 (Clinton/Pittstown exit).  Turn right at traffic light ahead.  Turn left at next light (Leigh Street) and follow street to new library on left.  Park in library lot.

 

 

COLUMBIA TRAIL

 

Take Route 513 North to Califon.  Turn right at liquor store (Main Street) and follow road over bridge.  Stay right and park in old train station.

 

 

COOPALONG CREEK WALK

 

From Route 78 (East or West) take Exit 15.  Proceed onto Route 513 toward Pittstown.  Go to top of hill and turn left onto Route 617 (Sidney Road).  Go approximately three miles to Sidney School Road.  Turn left and follow road to the end at the railroad tracks.  Park along tracks.

 

CREEK ROAD/ FRENCHTOWN BORO PARK

 

Take Route 513 from Clinton to Frenchtown.  When you come down the hill into Frenchtown, turn left at the overhead blinking light.  Go over bridge and turn left into park. 

 

Alternate Route:  From Flemington, take Route 12 and turn right before creek just before blinking light.

 

 

DEER PATH PARK 

 

Take Route 31 to Woodschurch Road.  If heading north, Woodschurch Road is on the right and if heading south, it is on the left.  Proceed to parking lot past YMCA.  Park in lot near the bandstand and restrooms.

 

DUKE ISLAND PARK 

 

Take Route 206 off Somerville circle (toward Princeton).  Go a short distance under bridge to light.  Turn right onto Somerset Street; this becomes Old York Road.  Go through the town of Raritan.  After Raritan, look for park on left.  Park in lot. 

 

Alternate Route:  From Flemington, go north on Route 202 and turn right onto Old York Road (bank is on corner).  Continue to park on right in lot across from administration building.

 

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP SCHOOL

 

Take Route 78 to Exit 15.  Make a left at the light ahead and take Route 513 toward Pittstown.  At Hoff Mills Inn, stay straight to put yourself onto Route 579.  Take Route 579 to the first left toward Quakertown  (Quakertown Road).  Stay on the road to the school on the right.

 

GREAT  SWAMP

 

Take Route 287 North to Exit 30A.  The sign reads North Maple Avenue / Basking Ridge.  Continue on North Maple Avenue for approximately 2.8 miles.  Look for the Environmental Center signs.  Turn left onto Lord Stirling Road and go to the Environmental Center.  Meet at the Center (908-766-2489).

 

 

HIGH BRIDGE WALK

 

Take Route 31 North to Route 513 North into High Bridge.  When you get to Main Street, turn left and go past the liquor store and church on Main Street to the municipal parking lot on the left, just before the right-hand turn for Route 513.  Look for the gazebo.

 

 

HOFFMAN PARK

 

Take Route 78 West to Exit 11 (Pattenburg exit).  Stay left and follow signs for Pattenburg.  Cross back over Route 78.   Take the first left onto Baptist Church Road and go a short distance to the fork in the road (burned church on the left).  Stay to your right and follow this road for approximately one mile.  The park is on your left.  Meet in the parking lot.

 

 

 

 

 

 

KEN LOCKWOOD GORGE

 

Take Route 31 North from Clinton to Route 513.  Turn right and proceed through High Bridge past Voorhees High School to Hoffman’s Crossing Road on your right.  Turn right; go down over bridge and park (very little room to park).  Meet at the bridge.

 

LAMBERTVILLE 

 

From Flemington, take Route 202 South to the last exit before the toll (Route 29 – Lambertville).  Take a left at the first stop and a left again at the next stop to put you onto Route 29.  Take an immediate left into Holcombe Jimison Farm (sign will read “museum”).  Follow blacktop road to back and park near the towpath.

 

LOWER LANDSDOWN-

       

From 78 West, take exit 15, turn right at exit light, go less than 1/2 mile to next light (Leigh Street). Turn right, go approximately 1.5 miles and turn right onto Hamden Rd..  Go over bridge to next right.  Park on the right side of the road, just west of church.

      

MERRILL CREEK

 

Take Route 78 West to Exit 4.  At the bottom of the exit ramp, turn right toward Stewartsville.  Go into village to overhead light and turn right.  Follow this road until the end and bear left, crossing over Route 57 onto Montana Road.  Go approximately two miles.  Take the left onto Richline Road to the park.  Meet in front of the main building.

 

MILFORD RIVER ROAD WALK

 

From Flemington take Route 12 South to Frenchtown.  At the blinking light turn left onto Bridge Street.  Follow Bridge Street around the curve to the first right (Harrison Street).  Harrison Street becomes Route 519.  Take Route 519 into Milford and turn left at the light (Bridge Street).  Park in the municipal lot on the left.

 

PEDDLER’S VILLAGE, PA

 

Take Route 202 South across the Delaware River.  Proceed another five miles on Route 202 South to Peddler’s Village.

 

PRALLSVILLE MILLS, Stockton, NJ

 

From Flemington, take Route 523 South through Sergeantsville to Stockton.  At the stop sign (old garage on the right), turn right onto Route 29.  Follow Route 29 to Prallsville Mills on the left.  Park in lot.

 

 

PRINCETON CANAL WALK

 

Take Route 206 South to Princeton.  Turn left onto Nassau Street (Route 27).  Make the immediate right onto Mercer Street, then the next left onto Alexander Street.  Proceed on Alexander Street until you come to Faculty Road (on your left before the park).  Turning Point Park will be on the right on Alexander Street.  Turn right into parking lot.

 

 

ROUND VALLEY RESERVOIR

 

Take Route 22 West past Lebanon.  Look for signs for Round Valley.  Take the jug handle on the right and cross over Route 22 to put you onto the road to Round Valley.  Take a left onto Cherry Street at boat ramp sign.  The boat ramp entrance will be to your immediate right. 

 

Alternate Route:  Coming from Route 22 East, make a right at the signs for Round Valley and follow the road to the boat ramp area.

SCHOOLEY’S MOUNTAIN (near Hackettstown)

 

From Clinton take Route 513 North through Califon to Long Valley.  Turn left at the (Chesapeake Bay Restaurant on the corner.  Proceed eight miles to the park on the right.  Follow signs on the right and meet in the parking lot.

 

SPRUCE RUN

 

From Clinton, take Route 31 North.  At the third traffic light, turn left onto Van Syckles Road.  Proceed to the park’s main entrance on the left.  We will meet in the first parking lot after the booth.

 

 

TEETERTOWN PRESERVE

 

From 31, take 513 N through High Bridge to Califon. Just after A&P on left, turn left onto Sliker Road. Go up hill for 1.5 miles to a right onto Pleasant Grove. Go 1/2 mile, turn right at the 2nd entrance into parking lot.

                    

TINICUM PARK

 

From Clinton, take Route 513 to Frenchtown.  Cross the Delaware River Bridge and make the left onto Route 32.  Go one mile to the park entrance on the right.  Park in the first lot on the left.  It can be a little muddy if wet or when it rains.  Dress accordingly.

 

VAN SYCKLES WALK

 

From Clinton, take Route 31 North to Van Syckles Road (as if to Spruce Run).  Turn left onto Van Syckles and proceed to the second parking lot on the left.  Do not go to park entrance. 

 

 

VOORHEES STATE PARK

 

From Clinton, take Route 31 North and follow signs to Route 513 North (High Bridge exit).  Turn right and follow Route 513 through High Bridge.  The park is on the left across from Voorhees High School

 

 

WASHINGTON CROSSING PARK

 

From Frenchtown, take Route 29 South.  Watch for the park on the right.  You will go quite a distance on Route 29 just before Route 95 South.  We will walk the towpath in New Jersey.

 

WATCHUNG RESERVATION

 

Take Route 78 East to Exit 43, Diamond Hill Road.  Go approximately ¾ of a mile to the traffic light.  Turn left onto Valley Road.  Take Valley Road to Sky Top Drive.  The take Sky Top Drive to Coles Avenue.  Meet in the parking lot.
