How
Evening Primrose Works
Evening Primrose Oil provides our bodies
with an easily available source of essential fatty acids. These fatty
acids are needed to maintain healthy tissues. They help decrease
inflammation, relieve cramped muscles and keep our skin healthy.
Evening Primrose Oil has shown
great results in the treatment of monthly cyclical breast pain. In two
large clinical studies relief of symptoms matched commonly prescribed
drugs, and it is now a popular choice in Britain for the treatment of
this complaint.
For the treatment of PMS
symptoms Evening Primrose Oil will not bring immediate relief. Results
of studies vary but it may take four to six cycles before results are
seen.
The fatty acids in Evening
Primrose Oil benefit sufferers of eczema. Studies found skin was less
itchy and also less rough. This allowed patients to reduce, and in some
cases stop altogether, the use of topical creams. Again this is not a
quick fix, when successful, results are seen after three to four months
of use.
Side
Effects
Side effects are very uncommon. Less than 2%
of people taking Evening Primrose Oil for long periods report mild
stomach discomfort, nausea or headaches.
Safety
Concerns
There are no known safety issues regarding
Evening Primrose Oil. No interaction with commonly prescribed drugs has
been reported.
History of
Evening Primrose
The Evening Primrose is an attractive
sweetly scented American wildflower.
The Ancient Greeks gave it its
botanical name of "Oenothera". This translates to "wine
hunt" as the plant was supposed to give you a taste for wine and
then have the ability to repair the damage of overindulgence!
Native Americans used it for
higher medical purposes. They found it helped bruises and cuts when
applied to the skin. They also took it internally to treat obesity.
