A WINTER WONDERLAND

Kalaallit Nunaat in Winter

I am very excited to Xpose and share the numerous absolutely fascinating photo's taken of winter scenes from various places in Western Greenland. I can only wish I personally have the talent to take such awe-inspiring pictures as MARIO JANELLI from Milan, Italy.

Without a doubt, Mario's photo's have indeed become some of my personal favourites, and have comepletely blew me away by just browsing through them. WHO wouldn't want to be there? A winter wonderland indeed, without a doubt. Just see it for yourself.

In this photo database, you will find 110 pictures that will take you from the Inland Icecap near Kangerlussuaq, to the bustling capital of Nuuk, to dog-sledding in Sisimiut...and everywhere in between, including a glimpse of other communities along the coast such as Maniitsoq and tiny Kangaamiut. Click the below thumbnails to view its galleries. Once again, you'll have to click your "BACK" button in order to get back to this page for there are no links back from my Yahoo Photo Galleries.

A wonderful journey through the KANGERLUSSUAQ region, including a visit to the edge of the massive Inland Icecap. You will also find images of the village itself, the Ice Hotel, and the beautiful desert and icy landscape that surrounds it. Summer pictures can be found on my homepage, NUUK Xposed!

A series of great photo's from the capital, NUUK (but dressed in winter instead). You will also find a couple scenes from Nuussuaq. But Mario's pics can never outnumber MY Nuuk photos at NUUK Xposed! ;-)

Several pictures taken from the port of MANIITSOQ, which lies between Nuuk and Sisimiut. Maniitsoq is one of the several largest communities in Greenland, with approx. 3,000 inhabitants. Here, you will get any idea of the rocky landscapes that the town is built on.

Get ready to see absolutely breathtaking views along the COASTAL VOYAGE between Nuuk and Sisimiut. Some pictures remind me of Northern Norway in winter...ahh memories. This gallery also consists a couple aerial photo's, a couple of settlements including the village of KANGAAMIUT near Maniitsoq, and just pure Greenlandic wilderness and mountainscapes.

I guess this was Mario's highlight, a dog-sledding trip from Greenland's 2nd largest town, SISIMIUT. Sisimiut, with approx. 6,000 people, is located just north of the Arctic Circle. From here and northwards in Western Greenland, domestic pet dogs are banned in fear of risks of having breed among the different dog race. They believe only pure-bred sledge dogs can do the job with max ability. Sisimiut is also the northernmost town in Western Greenland with an ice-free port year-round (almost ice-free at least). You will also find some of my personal favourite images here.
