Arizona Trip Reports

In May, 1998 I visited Arizona for the first time with some friends. We did a 7-day backpacking trip in the Grand Canyon. This trip was pre-fungirl, but Myron, Dorcas, and Tony came along to keep me company. We spent a day on the south rim, enjoying the sights and acting like tourists. Then we backpacked, starting at Hermit's Rest. Our route took us down Hermit Canyon and across the Tonto Plateau. We descended to Phantom Ranch, on the far side of the Colorado River. We then took 3 days to explore the Clear Creek area before returning to Phantom Ranch. We hiked out the Bright Angel Trail to the south rim on our final day.

In June, 2012 Christy finally got to visit the Grand Canyon. We started our trip with a brief visit to the North Rim. (photos). We spent one night in the campground, took a scenic drive, and did short hikes to Cape Royal, Bright Angel Point, and Cape Final. Then we drove over to the South Rim, where we spent a night in the Mather Campground. (photos). Next, we did a 3-day backpacking trip to Phantom Ranch. On the first day we descended to the Colorado River and on to the Bright Angel Campground via the South Kaibab Trail. (photos). Day 2 was a layover day. That morning, I did a solo hike to Ribbon Falls. (photos). The next day we hiked back to the south rim on the Bright Angel Trail. (photos). For our final day I did a solo dayhike from Grandview Point to Horseshoe Mesa. (photos).

Our June, 2017 trip included hikes in Arizona, Utah, and Colorado. In the first week we spent 3 days backpacking in to the waterfalls in world-famous Havasu Canyon. (photos). Later in that trip, I did a solo backpacking trip from the North Rim to Thunder River and Deer Creek. (photos).
