The Yacht Club/Port Bar

Where to start. The Yacht Club (also sometimes called the Port Bar, but it's official name is Yacht Club, sometimes shortened to "Yacht," as is, "ela sto yacht!") is located right where you get off the ferry. You might not have noticed it when you got off the ferry during the day, because it looks like a nice little restaurant. Ah, but looks can be deceiving. Once the rest of the bars have closed, it's blinking green light beckons from across the port, calling all people, young and old, gay and straight, tired or not. The Beach goddess loves it here, but I'm not quite as partial. There is ALWAYS something interesting happening here, whether its drag queens and transvestites fanning themselves at a table, or some tourist chick hopped up on E giving an impromptu strip tease, or watching a bunch of people do so many tequila shots that you think they might die (ohh, wait, did i say watching? I meant DOING so many tequila shots!). When the late ferries come in, you can just get right off with your bags and start drinking right there! This summer a few of our friends went to Mykonos while we were in Rhodes, and their ferry was getting there at 3am, and they didn't have a hotel, so I told them they might as well just start partying at the Yacht Club til the travel agencies opened.....

Anyway, there is definitely a mixed crowd here. Since we were there so early this summer, there weren't really that many after-hours places open yet, so The Yacht Club was pretty much our only option. Later in the summer, you can go to Cavo, which is much cooler, or to whatever late-night place is around then. It always seems to change, depending on the night and the season.
