My first visit to Kingston, Ontario.

I moved to the town of Kingston which is about 3 hours away from my parent's home in Markham in the fall of 1999, four months after completing my B.Sc. at Ryerson U. Here is a picture taken by prof. Dave Mason who drove me there on my first visit. He and I toured the main campus and met with a prospective co-supervisor.

As you can see the campus is located directly next to the lake. (I'm still not sure if it's lake Ontario there or the Lawrence River ! :-)

The old Kingston court house.

Kingston was the first capital of Canada. It was also the home of the first prime minister of Canada, Sir John A Macdonald.

The Queen's University campus is an integral part of the town of Kingston.

Note the beautiful ivy covered stone buildings. They are over 100 years old.

Queens owns a large number of buildings in Kingston.

My first office at Queens.

All graduate students share offices in the department. My desk was one of 8 in one large sun-filled room. Later I moved to my supervisor's lab which was alot smaller and more private.

Queen's Pattern Recognition Lab

The north west side of the lab which contained our SMART white boards and our lab computers. The east side contained our desks and file cabinet, and the south side contains our meeting table, fridge and sofa.

Dr. S. Blostein and Dr. D. Blostein.

Dr. Dorothea Blostein (on the right) was my M.Sc. thesis supervisor. Her husband and her are shown above with her award for Teaching Excellence.

Carla & shisa !

Neither Carla nor I have ever tried to smoke a shisha. Here, Carla only wants to *look* like she's trying it, but she never actually smokes it.

Night at El-Kanater

This is a restaurant in Montreal called 'El-Kanater'. It serves lebanese food, and boasts a small dance floor and live band and belly dancer on Saturday nights.

Ottawa's Rideau Canal. (Frozen solid and very cold!)

This picture was taken on a day when the windchill was more than -30 degrees celcius. We almost froze to death for this pictures (Carla's fault of course).

Ottawa's Parliament Hill.

Carla and I were in Ottawa to attend a concert for a well-known Canadian band called "Bare-Naked Ladies".
