Editorial Reviews

Before Joan Baez, the closest thing to a white female folksinger was Jo Stafford. Baez made her professional debut in 1959 at the Newport Folk Festival and started recording for Vanguard the next year. Her early association with Bob Dylan and performances of his songs did him no harm. The material in this CD comes from later in her career, when she had left Vanguard for A&M. Listeners who enjoy this CD will probably want to hear her earlier work. She is among the classic American voices. --Stanley Booth

Listening to Joan Baez is like listening to Joni Mitchell you feel artists doing what they want to do as opposed to the Corporate machine at work.i really enjoyed this collection of hers.her guitar playing&voice are together in tone thru out.i really enjoy also the pureness of her sound.

5 of 5 stars A voice like no other..., November 30, 1999

In the sixties I purchased all of her albums. I wore them out and replaced them with every cd she has ever put out. If you are not familiar with her work this is an excellent compilation to start your collection . She has the most incredible, crystal clear voice. She sings with feeling and honesty and can bring you close to tears when she sings "Forever Young". On another album which has "Birmingham Sunday" you will be in tears. Joan Baez has been my favorite singer for the past 35 years from my late teens to mid fifties. You want to relax? A glass of wine, darkness and Joan Baez coming through a Bose System will blow you away.
