The Defiant

Officially classified as an escort vessel, the Defiant was a prototype warship to deal with the Borg threat in 2366. While at the Utopia Planetia Shipyards, Lieutenant Commander Benjamin Sisko assisted in it's design. Five years later, Commander Sisko of Deep Space Nine requested it's use in the search for the Founders of the Dominion in the Gamma Quadrant. The Romulan Star Empire, in an effort to gain information about the Dominion with minimal involvement, loaned Starfleet the use of one of their cloaking devices to be used in the Gamma Quadrant. The Defiant was permanently assigned to Deep Space Nine until it's destruction at the hands of the Breen in 2375.

Stardate 4523.7 - the Defiant, cloaked, orbitted Deep Space Station K-7 after being thrown back in time by former Klingon operative Arne Darvin. Sisko, Dax, Bashir and O'Brien posed as crewmen of the USS Enterprise, NCC-1701, while Odo and Worf disguised themselves as traders and staked out K-7's bar.

Stardate 48213.1 - Lieutenant Commander Micheal Eddington of Starfleet Security joined the crew at Deep Space Nine. His duties were to keep watch over the Defiant and handle the security for the Federation onboard the station. His arrival prompted Constable Odo to resign his position as the station's Chief of Security. Sub-Commander T'Rul of the Romulan Star Empire also came to the station, to supervise the initial use of the cloaking device installed in the Defiant.

A few weeks after their return from the Gamma Quadrant, Commander Sisko took Lieutenant Commander Jadzia Dax to Trill, due to the hallucinations caused by repressed memories of one of the previous Dax hosts.

After Major Kira Nerys was kidnapped from the station by the Obsidian Order, Commander Sisko used the Defiant to travel to Cardassia, and rescue her.

Stardate 48467.3 - W. Thomas Riker, a transporter duplicate of William T. Riker of the Enterprise-D, came to the station, and stole the Defiant for the Maqui. The Maqui had intelligance that the Cardassians were building a fleet in the Orias system. Thomas Riker's efforts to eliminate the base proved to the Central Command that the Obsidian Order was building the fleet.

Stardate 48481.2 - While in orbit of Earth, chronoton particles in the Defiant's hull caused Commander Sisko, Doctor Julian Bashir and Science Officer Jadzia Dax to be sent back in time to 2024. While trapped in the past, Sisko and Bashir's efforts to keep their food cards caused the death of Gabriel Bell, a prominent figure of the Bell Riots. During the riot, Sisko took on Bell's identity to preserve the timeline.

Because of Bell's death, the Defiant was the only proof of the Federation. While still in orbit of Earth, the closest outpost was a Romulan colony on Alpha Centauri. Kira and Chief Miles O'Brien used the same chronoton particles to rescue the other three officers from the past.

Stardate 48543.2 - the Defiant was used to place the first communications/sensor array in the Gamma Quadrant. This project was a joint operation between Starfleet and the Cardassian Sciences Division.

After the joint Obsidian Order - Tal Shiar fleet went to the Gamma Quadrant to put an end to the threat of the Dominion, Commander Sisko went against orders to follow them. Constable Odo and Elim Garak were aboard Enabran Tain's warbird, and Sisko wanted to save them. In orbit of the Founder's planet, the fleet commanders discovered the had been betrayed; the Dominion was ready for them. When Garak went to free Odo, they found out that Colonol Lovok was a Founder when he assited in their escape.

Stardate 48959.1 - shortly after Sisko's promotion to Captain, a Founder impersonating Federation Ambassador Krajensky attempted to take over the Defiant and start a war between the Federation and the Tzenkethi. Odo was only able to stop the threat Krajensky posed by throwing him against the unshielded warp core, killing the other Founder.

Stardate 49011.4 - after the coup on Cardassia and the Klingon's decalaration of war, Captain Sisko cloaked the Defiant, and went into Cardassian space, to save the Detapa Council, including Gul Dukat.

While studying an inversion of the Bajoran Wormhole, Captain Benjamin Sisko narrowly avoided a discharge from the warp core, which could have pulled him into subspace.

Stardate 49195.5 - Doctor Lenara Kahn of Trill and her fellow scientists used the Defiant under Lietenant Commander Worf's command in an attempt to open an artificial wormhole near the Bajoran system.

Stardate 49263.5 - while in orbit of a gas giant, Sisko, Quark and Hanok of the Karemma Commerce Ministry were meeting onboard the Defiant to discuss the trade agreements between the three governments. The Defiant came under attack by the Jem'Hadar, and was badly damaged within the layers of the gas giant. Despite the damage, the Defiant was able to destroy both Jem'Hadar ships, save the Karemma vessel, and return to Deep Space Nine.

While Captain Sisko and Odo were on Earth under Admiral Leyton's command, they uncovered a plot to overthrow the Federation president. Major Kira found a young lieutenant on the station who was assisting Leyton in his attempts to make the Federation believe that a cloaked Dominion fleet was in the Alpha Quadrant. The Defiant went to Earth, but came under attack by Captain Benteen's Excelsior-class Lakota. After Leyton ordered Benteen to destroy the Defiant, she refused. Benteen powered down her weapons' systems and hailed the Defiant, and both damaged ships went to Earth, ending the threat Leyton and his officers represented to the Federation.

Stardate 49648 - while in command of the Defiant in a battle against the Klingons, Lieutenant Commander Worf fired on and destroyed a civilian transport that decloaked in front of the ship. At his extradition hearing, it was proven this was a ploy by the Klingon Empire to discredit Worf in the eyes of the Federation, and that there weren't any Klingon civilians on the destroyed transport.

Using stolen computer files from Starfleet, 'Smiley' O'Brien and the Terran Resistance built their own Defiant in the Mirror Universe to fight the Klingon - Cardassian Alliance. O'Brien and Jennifer Sisko lured Captain Sisko to the Mirror Universe, because of the design flaws in the ship they needed his help to get it ready before an attack from the Alliance.

Stardate 50049.3 - the Defiant, under Major Kira Nery's command, was used to salvage a Jem'Hadar battle cruiser on Torga IV, in the Gamma Quadrant.

Stardate 50485.2 - while pursuing a Maqui vessel with traiter Micheal Eddington onboard, the Defiant was left defenseless by a cascade virus left in the ship's programming by Eddington when he was an officer onboard. The ship had to undergo intense repair work, but was called back into action to pursue Eddington after he launched biogenic weapons at a Cardassian colony. Despite the limitations, the Defiant was successful in capturing Eddington.

Stardate 50564.2 - the Defiant went into a warp jump within the Bajoran system to stop the Runabout Yukon from detonating a bomb in the sun. The resulting explosion would have wiped out the station, as well as the combined fleet of Starfleet, Klingon and Romulan ships that were there to defend against the new Cardassian - Dominion threat.

Stardate 50814.2 - after entering the atmosphere of Gaia, a planet in the Gamma Quadrant, the crew encountered their own descendants on the surface. They learned that when the Defiant tried to leave the atmosphere, they were thrown two hundred years into the past, and forced to stay on the planet after the Defiant's destruction. They also learned that Major Kira was one of the first deaths, due to an accident on the bridge when the ship entered the atmosphere. The crew decided that they had to make sure that they travel to the past, to make sure the colony would come into existence. Their attempt, however, was stopped by the older Odo, who wanted to make sure that Kira survived. The ship was able to return to the station.

Stardate 50893.5 - the Defiant, under Worf's command, was part of the fleet the tried to defend Earth from the Borg incursion. The Defiant was badly damaged, and was about to ram into the Borg cube when Captain Jean-Luc Picard's USS Enterprise-E arrived. Worf and the rest of the Defiant crew were transported aboard the Enterprise-E. Captain Picard told Worf that the Defiant was "adrift, but salvagable."

Stardate 50975.2 - the Defiant, under Lieutenant Commander Jadzia Dax's command, placed cloaked, self-replicating mines across the entrance to the wormhole. When the Dominion forces from Cardassia came to take the station by force, the Defiant and the IKS Rotarran were used to evacuate military personnal off the station.

After the war with the Dominion began, the Defiant-class vessel Valiant was caught behind enemy lines. The ship had few senior officers, and a crew of Red Squad Starfleet cadets. After the death of the Valiant captain, the cadets sought out a new type of Jem'Hadar cruiser.

Three months later, Admiral Ross removed Captain Sisko from command of the Defiant so that he could command a mission in the salvaged Jem'Hadar vessel to destroy a ketracel-white facility in Dominion territory.

Stardate 51145.3 - Lieutenant Commander Jadzia Dax was placed in command of the Defiant after Captain Sisko was named as Admiral Ross's cheif adjutant. Her first mission was to destroy a sensor array in the Argolis Cluster.

Shortly afterward, Captain Sisko commanded the Defiant in the effort to retake Deep Space Nine from the Dominion. Six months after the evacuation, Starfleet and the Klingons returned to the station.

Stardate 51413.6 - while conducting a search for survivors of the USS Honshu, the Defiant, under Worf's command, received a message from the mentally imbalanced Dukat. The message gave the Defiant crew the location of the planet where they found Captain Sisko, who had been injured in the attack of the Honshu.

Stardate 51462 - two Defiant-class vessels assisted with the recovery of the Prometheus, an advanced prototype tactical vessel that had been taken over by the Tal Shiar of the Romulan Empire.

Stardate 51474.2 - while conducting experiments at a rare subspace compression phenomenon, the Defiant was attacked and boarded by the Jem'Hadar. Captain Sisko was able to retake the ship, with the help of the compressed Runabout Rubicon that had Dax, Bashir and O'Brien onboard.

Stardate 51825.4 - while en route to Ferenginar to meet with Grand Nagus Zek, Ensign Nog and Jake Sisko's runabout came under attack by the Jem'Hadar. They were rescued by the Valiant. Nog joined the Red Squad cadets in their efforts to destroy the new Dominion cruiser, despite Jake's objections. The cruiser was found, but the attack was ineffective. The Valiant was destroyed, with only three survivors - Jake, Nog and Cadet Dorian Collins were rescued by the Defiant.

Stardate 51948.3 - the Defiant made contact with Captain Lisa Cusack of the USS Olympia, the only survivor on an L-class planet in the Rutharian sector. Upon arrival at her crashsite, the crew discovered that the atmosphere caused a temporal variance, and they took her three year old corpse back to the station for a proper burial service.

2374 - the Defiant led the attack to gain a foothold in Dominion territory, in the Chin'toka system.

The Defiant was used to deliver supplies to AR-558 in the Chin'toka system. Captain Sisko, Doctor Bashir, Lieutenant Ezri Dax, and Ensign Nog assisted in the defense of a Dominion communications array after the Defiant was forced to evade a Jem'Hadar attack.

2375 - during the final months of the Dominion War, the Defiant was destroyed by the Breen energy dissapation weapon while trying to defend the Chin'toka system.

Stardate 52861.3 - the Defiant-class USS Sau Paulo was assigned to Captain Sisko's command, and renamed Defiant, by special dispensation.

Captain Sisko commanded the new Defiant in the final offensive against the Dominion, which pushed the Jem'Hadar and Breen all the way back to Cardassia Prime.

2375 - after the war ended, Deep Space Nine was affected by a Dead Zone. While investigating the loss of communication with the station, the Defiant was also caught in the Dead Zone, with Commander Tiris Jast, Lieutenant Nog and Doctor Bashir onboard.

2376 - while undergoing repairs and upgrades, the Defiant was forced to defend the station from a rogue Jem'Hadar attack. Commander Tiris Jast was killed in action, and Lieutenant Ezri Dax was forced to take command of the ship.

After reviewing Odo's message of peace, the Defiant began a refit to allow for exploration of non-Dominion space in the Gamma Quadrant. Commander Elias Vaughn oversaw the refit, supervising Chief Engineer Nog, Science Officer Shar ch'Thane, Tactical Officer Sam Bowers and Conn Officer Prynn Tenmei in their efforts.

Commander Elias Vaughn led the mission that placed a communications array in the Gamma Quadrant in 2376.

The Defiant was used in the evacuation of the human colony of Europa Nova guring the Gateways crisis.

The Defiant rendevoused with the USS Marco Polo, under the temporary command of Deanna Troi of the USS Enterprise-E. Federation Ambassador Worf was beamed from the Marco Polo to the Defiant, and returned the ambassador to Klingon territory after placing one of the master resonators in the control panel for an Iconian Gateway on Dinasia.

The Defiant, under Vaughn's command, was assisted by Captain Picard of the Enterprise-E in the search for Verad during his attempts to destroy joined Trill with an engineered virus that would kill the Trill hosts, and make unjoined Trill carriers so that no other Trill could be joined.
