Cape Tribulation is our stopping point in the Daintree
Rainforest. Before heading up there, though, we stopped off at the Kuranda Rainforestation to try throwing boomerangs (a lot of fun), and to watch a spear throwing demonstration (the older man was really good - I'm glad I wasn't the target) and to hear a digeridoo demonstration. Our guide at the station was excellent, and his digeridoo playing was really cool. In the end they demonstrated some dances from various regions, and took "volunteers" to go up and dance with them. Luckily Nick represented Contiki well. On our way down from Rainforestation some of us took the skyrail, where you can see the top of the forest and then you get off at three different points to walk along paths. And would you know? It actually was raining in the rainforest. Who would have thought it would do that?
On the way there we stopped by the Mossman Gorge, and then went up to the Fern Tree Resort. Once you get up into the rainforest there's not much you can really do other than what's scheduled, but it's a really nice relaxing time. We went on a rainforest walk along a plank board walkway to learn about the rainforest.
Of course, our guide was kind of obsessed with the strangler figs. Almost half of what he talked about was how the strangler figs worked their way up the trees and killed them slowly until the trees rotted out from inside and all that was left was the hollow strangler fig outline. It was actually kind of funny because he would stop along the road just to show us a huge strangler fig. We then went on to the creek and walked along a dirt path to get there. Oh yeah, and we also found out that you can lick the bottoms of the green ants, and apparently it's very sour. Nick and Marisa were the only takers on this (sorry, but I can't see doing the ants a favor by licking their butts for them...).
That night we went down to the backpackers place that was right down the road and started in about 8:30 that night. They had karaoke, and if you got up and sang you got a free drink. I guess that's the only reason why some of those people were singing, and unfortunatey it inspired them to sing multiple songs. This night was definitely one where we got to know each other a little bit better... So much for little secrets...
