The Sarah Jane Adventures
> General Information The Sarah Jane Adventures is a British science fiction television series, produced by BBC Wales for CBBC (the BBC children's network), created by Russell T. Davies and starring Elisabeth Sladen. The program is a spin-off of the long-running BBC science fiction program Doctor Who and focuses on the adventures of investigative journalist Sarah Jane Smith. The series premiered on BBC One with a 60-minute special, entitled Invasion of the Bane, on January 1st of 2007. A series of ten 25-minute episodes followed, beginning on September 24th of 2007. A second season aired in 2008, and a third season aired in 2009. The series is set in Ealing. Sarah Jane Smith (played by Elizabeth Sladen): An investigative journalist and former traveling companion of The Doctor, Sarah Jane now works on her own to help protect Earth from alien threats. Luke Smith (played by Thomas Knight): Luke is a young teen boy who is actually a human/alien hybred who was created in the first episode. Sarah Jane has adopted Luke, and is raising him as a human. Luke also acts as a helper to Sarah Jane. Maria Jackson (played by Yasmin Paige): Sarah Jane's 13-year-old neighbor. Maria stumbled across Sarah Jane's activities, and acted as a helper to Sarah Jane during Season 1, and into the first story of Season 2. Clyde Langer (played by Daniel Anthony): Clyde is a young teen boy who is friends with Maria and Luke, and later Rani (see below). Like Maria, Clyde stumbled across Sarah Jane's activities, and now acts as a helper to Sarah Jane. Rani Chandra (played by Anjli Mohindra): Rani (a teen girl) and her family move into Maria's house when Maria and her father leave for America at the beginning of Season 2. Like Maria before her, Rani stumbled across Sarah Jane's activities, and Rani now acts as a helper to Sarah Jane. Rani is also friends with Luke and Clyde (note: while Rani has the same name as The Rani, a recurring villain from the classic series of Doctor Who, Russell Davies has told Doctor Who fans that Rani is "not The Rani"). Mr. Smith (voice of Alexander Armstrong): An advanced computer housed in Sarah Jane's attic. Mr. Smith has the ability to not only monitor activity on Earth, but also has the ability to monitor alien activity both on Earth and in space. Unlike Doctor Who which is geared toward a family audience, and unlike the Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood which is geared toward an adult audience, The Sarah Jane Adventures is geared toward children. The Sarah Jane Adventures revolves around investigative reporter Sarah Jane Smith, who is now helping protect Earth from alien threats. Sarah Jane is quite well versed in regard to aliens, having been a traveling companion to The Doctor in Doctor Who and visiting many aliens worlds in the process. There are some crossover elements between Doctor Who and The Sarah Jane Adventures. In Doctor Who, The Doctor has a sonic screwdriver. In The Sarah Jane Adventures, Sarah Jane has a smaller version of a sonic screwdriver known as a sonic lipstick. Also, three alien races, the Judoon, the Slitheen and the Sontarans, appear in both Doctor Who and The Sarah Jane Adventures. From what we know, Sarah Jane seems to work outside of official circles as an independent agent, although we are led to believe that Sarah Jane has some relationship with the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce (UNIT)(also known as the Unified Intelligence Taskforce). We also know that Sarah Jane and the Torchwood Institute know of each other (thanks to the 2008 Doctor Who season finale). However, since the Torchwood Institute has not been seen in any episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures, we have no idea what, if any, role Torchwood might play in regard to The Sarah Jane Adventures. The BBC has set up an official website for The Sarah Jane Adventures. The website may be accessed by going to www.bbc.co.uk/sja. There is also a privately run website that provides news connected to The Sarah Jane Adventures. The privately run website may be accessed by going to www.sarahjanetv.blogspot.com. Season One (2007):
