Primeval is a British science fiction tv series produced for ITV. The series follows a team of scientists assigned with investigating the appearance of temporal anomalies across England which contain prehistoric and futuristic creatures that use the anomalies to enter the present.

Main Characters:

Professor Nick Cutter (Played by Douglas Henshall): Professor of evolutionary biology and team leader. Cutter is killed by his wife, Helen, in episode 16, after the ARC (Anomaly Research Centre) is attacked by Helen and her army of Cleaner replicas. He was also romantically involved with both Claudia Brown, and more recently, before his death, Jenny Lewis was beginning to feel romantically attached to him.

Abby Maitland (Played by Hannah Spearritt): herpetologist and assistant zookeeper. She joins Cutter's team at the beginning of Series I.

Stephen Hart (Played by James Murray): Cutter's lab technician and "bodyguard". Stephen sacrificed himself to save the team in the last episode of Series II.

Connor Temple (Played by Andrew-Lee Potts): Cutter's student and dinosaur expert.

Claudia Brown / Jennifer Lewis (Played by Lucy Brown): In Series I, Claudia Brown was a Home Office official and the team's government liaison. She disappeared at the end of Episode 6 due to a timeline change, and Jenny Lewis, an identical woman, was introduced at the end of Episode 7. Lewis is the new Public Relations officer for the team. Lewis leaves the series at the end of episode 18.

Sir James Lester (Played by Ben Miller): a senior Home Office official and administrator of the team.

Helen Cutter (Played by Juliet Aubrey): palaeontologist, villainess and Cutter's long-lost wife.

Captain Tom Ryan (Played by Mark Wakeling): special forces leader and former SAS operative. He appears only in Series I.

Oliver Leek (Played by Karl Theobald): Lester's new assistant, replacing Claudia Brown. It was later revealed that Leek was working for Helen Cutter.

Caroline Steel (Played by Naomi Bentley): Connor's former girlfriend who was originally working for Leek during the majority of Series II.

Captain Becker (Played by Ben Mansfield): a Special Forces soldier who is assigned to help protect the team from potential danger.

Sarah Page (Played by Laila Rouass): An Egyptologist, Cutter recruits her into the team at the beginning of Series III. Her job is to investigate ancient myths and legends involving creatures to see whether any of them can be explained by anomalies.

Danny Quinn (Played by Jason Flemyng): former policeman who becomes involved after an incident with two teenagers. His brother was killed by a camouflaging creature. He later becomes the new team leader, appointed by Lester, following Jenny's exit in episode 18.

Christine Johnson (Played by Belinda Stewart-Wilson): Lester's new boss.

Series I (2007):

Series I primarily revolves around the team originally forming, following several creature attacks in the Forest of Dean, as well as Cutter's search for Helen his missing wife, who has suddenly reappeared at the same time as the creatures from the anomalies. Throughout Series I Nick Cutter seems to become romantically involved with Lester's personal assistant, Claudia Brown. In the series finale Cutter travels through an anomaly and upon his return he discovers that Claudia Brown no longer exists and that the evolutionary timeline has changed. This cliffhanger is picked up in episode 7, the first episode of Series II.

Episode 1
(Original British Air Date: February 10, 2007)

A time anomaly appears in the Forest of Dean, leading to the late Permian period, 250 million years ago. A small team of people group together to help defeat a Gorgonopsid that has come through.

Episode 2
(Original British Air Date: February 17, 2007)

After a London Underground cleaner is killed by an arthropod-type monster, the team investigates an underground time anomaly that leads to the Late Carboniferous period. They soon face giant spiders, and something deadlier.

Episode 3
(Original British Air Date: February 24, 2007)

Swimming pools, inner-city reservoirs, and flooded cellars in suburban homes are being overtaken with marine creatures such as Mosasaurs and Hesperornis. Cutter is forced to brave the icy waters to find his wife Helen.

Episode 4
(Original British Air Date: March 3, 2007)

Helen escapes and unleashes a flock of dodos that carry deadly parasites capable of infecting humans.

Episode 5
(Original British Air Date: March 10, 2007)

A Pteranodon turns up at a golf course, and trouble begins when a golfer is killed.

Episode 6
(Original British Air Date: March 17, 2007)

The team fights a rampaging sophisticated predator from the future, when Claudia Brown mysteriously disappears.

Series II (2008):

The timeline change in Series I happens in episode 6, and Cutter gets accustomed to the new universe for the majority of Series II. By now Cutter no longer seems to care about Helen and Claudia Brown has completely disappeared, being replaced by the identical Jenny Lewis. Throughout the series Cutter and his team try to discover who at the team's headquarters is a traitor, and it was later revealed that this was Claudia Brown's replacement Oliver Leek who had been manipulating things from behind the scenes. Series II marks the last known appearance of Stephen Hart who dies after giving his life to save Cutter, the team and the general public from an attack by a series of creatures in episode 13.

Episode 7

Cutter grapples with Claudia Brown's disappearance while struggling to adjust to working with her replacement, Oliver Leek. Meanwhile, the team tries to recapture a pack of Deinonychus on the loose in the local shopping center.

Episode 8
(Original British Air Date: January 19, 2008)

Giant carnivorous worms start to appear in an eerie fog in a local office block. Cutter, meanwhile, has to deal with Jenny Lewis, the team's Public Relations woman and Claudia Brown's double.

Episode 9
(Original British Air Date: January 26, 2008)

A Sabre-toothed cat rampages across Blue Sky Park, killing at will, but the team believes someone is covering up for the creature.

Episode 10
(Original British Air Date: February 2, 2008)

When the team is sent to investigate the disappearance of a teenager, Abby is dragged through an anomaly by another future carnivorous species named the Mer.

Episode 11
(Original British Air Date: February 9, 2008)

While trying to rescue a child stranded through an anomaly, the team is trapped in the past, and to make matters worse, they are faced with giant scorpions.

Episode 12
(Original British Air Date: February 16, 2008)

A Columbian mammoth goes on the rampage on the M25 motorway, while Lester fights for his life against a future predator that has infiltrated the team's headquarters.

Episode 13
(Original British Air Date: February 23, 2008)

Cutter and the team are trapped by Leek, who plans to use his army of creatures to make him the most powerful man in a new and troubled world, and one of the team loses their life to save the others from certain destruction.

Series III (2009):

In Series III, Helen Cutter continues to cause trouble for the team, going as far as killing her husband, Nick Cutter, in episode 16. New character Danny Quinn takes command of the team at the end of episode 18.

Episode 14

An exhibition of ancient Egyptian relics comes to the British Museum and an anomaly opens in a mysterious monument called the 'Sun Cage'. A Pristichampsus, believed in Ancient Egypt to be the demon Ammut, emerges and proceeds to wreak havoc in London. Cutter, Abby, and new head of security Captain Becker pursue it through the city while Connor and new recruit, Sarah Page try to block off the anomaly and prevent more Pristichampus from coming through.

Episode 15
(Original British Air Date: April 4, 2009)

Three teenage boys break into a house and a Future Gremlin attacks them. Only one boy manages to escape. With the anomaly closed the Gremlin remains stuck in the house for the next 14 years, by which time Cutter's model has led him to predict that another anomaly will appear in that very house. He sends Connor, Abby and Jenny to investigate but the three have a run-in with the creature and PC Danny Quinn who is trying to find out who murdered his brother.

Episode 16
(Original British Air Date: April 11, 2009)

An anomaly opens in a London hospital, causing several Diictodon to emerge. They promptly chew through the power cables cutting the power to the building. Cutter, Abby, Connor and Becker arrive to investigate as does journalist Mick Harper, who wants to get evidence of the creatures to expose to the public. Meanwhile, Helen, "The Cleaner" and their clone of Cutter infiltrate the ARC so that they can ask the real Cutter about the mysterious artifact. When the real Cutter returns Helen confronts him, informing him that she has to stop the ARC's research from destroying the world ... even if it means killing her husband.

Episode 17
(Original British Air Date: April 18, 2009)

Mick Harper steals an anomaly detector from Jenny's car and uses it to track down an anomaly at an airport, bringing Nigel Marven with him to identify the creature, yet when a Giganotosaurus comes through the anomaly, the team has to keep it hidden from the public and stop it destroying an airport and a Boeing 747. Luckily for the team they have unexpected assistance from Danny Quinn, who manages to lure the creature back to its own time.

Episode 18
(Original British Air Date: April 25, 2009)

Danny Quinn is drafted in to help the team when a fast-growing flesh-eating fungus is transferred to the present day by a temp who in turn passes the spores onto his boss who turns into a Fungus Creature. The team manages to bring the creature back to the ARC where Jenny is trapped in the main control room with it. After her recent discovery of Cutter's picture of Claudia Brown, Jenny decides that she's had enough: she resigns from her job at the ARC, leaving the team in Danny's hands.

Episode 19
(Original British Air Date: May 2, 2009)

When the ARC is taken over by Christine Johnson and the military in search of the artifact, Danny and the team flee to a safehouse in the woods: in truth, an old cabin that has been abandoned since the 1930s. With no technology or weapons but their own resourcefulness, the team not only have to defend themselves from Johnson's soldiers, but also a pack of carnivorous Terror Birds that emerge from a nearby anomaly.

Episode 20
(Original British Air Date: May 9, 2009)

A Dracorex comes through an anomaly, trying to escape from a 14th century knight who believes he is hunting a dragon. The team are forced to find and save the life of the Dracorex, and return the confused knight to his own world before he kills any people, who he believes to be demons.

Episode 21
(Original British Air Date: May 16, 2009)

An anomaly opens at a race car test track and a Megopteran. a huge insect from the future, comes through. It is carnivorous and lethal, and the team must draw on all their resources to get it back to its home. However, things get complicated when Jack decides to find out what his sister Abby really does for a living, and inadvertently drives through an anomaly into a future world inhabited by ravenous predators. The team must now rescue Jack, then escape the future with their lives.

Episode 22
(Original British Air Date: May 23, 2009)

The team have to deal with a herd of Embolotherium from the Eocene. Danny arrives with a mysterious woman called Eve who he first saw in the Future; having rescued her from Christine Johnson, they endeavour to save everyone from the stampede. Upon their return to the ARC, the team are shocked to discover that Eve is an alias of Helen Cutter. Holding Johnson at gunpoint, Helen steals the artifact and vows once again to stop the ARC's research destroying the world. Helen then leaves Johnson in the future, where she is torn apart by a future predator, and makes her escape. The team decide they must find and stop Helen before more people die from her deranged schemes.

Episode 23
(Original British Air Date: June 6, 2009)

Danny, Abby and Connor travel to the future in pursuit of Helen while Sarah and Captain Becker try to stop the Megopterans from destroying the ARC. Meanwhile, the trio discover Helen plans to prevent the evolution of humanity in order to save the world, resulting in a chase across Cretaceous North America and into Pliocene Africa. Danny faces a desperate battle, not only to stop Helen from murdering the first hominins, but to get back to the present day before all is lost.
