Ninth Commandment
“Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.”

This commandment means telling a lie. Lies can be anything from a blatant
malicious lie, down to a fib or little white lie. Lying also includes
making exaggerated claims. Remaining silent to falsely take credit for the
accomplishment of another is also a form of lying. A subtle change in
tone, inflection, or expression can be misleading and untruthful as the
boldest lie. All of these forms of lying are lies in the sight of God. How
many lies does it take to be a liar? Answer this, how many murders do you
have to commit to be a murderer? Just one. In the same way, if you have
told just one lie, no matter what color or size, that makes you a liar. The
ninth commandment requires the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the
truth. God is a God of truth and His Law demands absolute honesty from the
heart. The Bible warns, “all liars shall have their part in the lake which
burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death” Revelation 21:8.
