Los Angeles Spanish for "the angels”, is the largest city in the state of California and the second largest in the United States. Often abbreviated as L.A. and nicknamed The City of Angels, Los Angeles has an estimated population of 3.8 million and spans over 498.3 square miles (1,290.6 km2) in Southern California. During the II WW many immigrants fled to the shores of America to escape the horror of the communist regime, amongst these were my grandparents, who lived all over the United States eventually settling in Los Angeles. As a Tri- national I spent much of my childhood growing up around the streets of L.A and have got to know it as a second home, from Burbank to Venice beach and Pasadena to, L.A is a fast paced City within the multifaceted state of California.
Borås is the leading textile city of Sweden, starting as a location spot for textile mills, the town is set about 40 minutes outside of Gothenburg, the second largest city in Sweden and is home to the Swedish school of textiles or,Textilhögskolan. From August 2008 – December 2008 I up rooted and hauled myself to Sweden to study at Textilhögskolan. Focusing my time completely on the creative side of the textile industry I spent my days designing, drafting and creating a collection of my own, from pattern to garment. The experience gave me a full insight into the creative world of fashion, allowed me to interact with other students and designers from around the world and allowed me to experience full freedom in terms of design and the design process.
Singapore is one of the only city states in the world and is situated at the southern tip of Malaysia 137 kilometres (85 mi) north of the equator. Since it gained independence in 1965 standards of living in Singapore have risen dramatically and it is now a modern economy focused on industry. In January of 2009 I went to study at the National University of Singapore also known as NUS. The school is renowned for its excellence in business and studying at the school most defiantly meant that the Singaporean hard work ethic was grinded into me. Once again I worked along side a very international crowd allowing me to see different views and perspective in terms of culture and tradition.
