Jimmy Gibson sent me these pictures from Sunday.   This is what he had to say.

JIMBO,

I DO NOT KNOW WHAT KIND OF PLANE THIS IS BUT JEFF LAYMAN BOUGHT IT FROM HOMER DUNCAN. HE HAD A VERY EXCITING EXPERIENCE TRYING TO GET IT OFF THE GROUND AND KEEPING IT OUT OF THE TREES. WE HAD GOOD CROWDS BOTH SATURDAU AND SUNDAY.

SEE YOU NEXT WEEK
JIMMY

Here is an email from Jeff Layman describing his flight..:O)

Jimbo,

I flew the Enforcer this past weekend.   I just purchased the Enforcer from Homer Duncan and had flown that plane a few times a few years earlier.   I don't understand it, Homer and I had been at Atwood at a tractor show - and I wound up buying an airplane.

The Enforcer is a Balsa USA delta wing kit with a .90 size Super Tiger engine with a pusher prop for power.   It is a unique plane and I would recommend drug testing anyone who thinks that they might even want one of these planes.

It was a hair raising flight as I barely had enough elevator to lift off the runway.   After a long southerly takeoff (nearly to Jackson's McKellar Field), I turned back north and barely had enough altitude to keep the plane out of the trees.   I made two laps around the flying area and the engine went dead.   I put all of the up trim in the radio (I WAS FLYING WITH FULL UP ELEVATOR TO MAINTAIN ALTITUDE) and landed uneventfully on the north end on the runway.

I didn't mention that it was windy and I had told everyone that I was just going to do a taxi test.   When I got the plane to the runway, it dawned on me that a pusher engine doesn't yield good engine cooling while not flying - the prop is behind the darn engine!

In my infinite wisdom, I had made adjustments to the elevator and ailerons before the flight.   I've since learned that the Enforcer calls for positive elevator and ailerons at neutral (about 1/4 inch).

This was the first time in a long time that I've been nervous flying r/c planes.   I actually was shaking a bit after the flight (part of getting old I guess).   And as I once heard and can now confirm - the color of adrenaline really is "brown".    Don't tell anyone that I had to discard my underwear in the port-a-john (adrenaline almost smells like "crap").   I thought about this and since you can't flush the port-a-john, we needn't worry about things getting clogged up.   That's why we pay for the port-a-john to get cleaned out.   None of us wants to clean up after our own "near tragedies".

I kinda got attached to the looks of Delta wing and was hoping that it might last more than one flight.

The Enforcer still lives and I'll make some adjustments and attempt to fly again.   The next time, I'll properly empty the intestines beforehand!

Hope you had a good time at the river and all is well.........

You only pay $80 a year for membership - It ought be illegal to be able to have that much fun and still keep your clothes on!

Regards,

Jeff "cleanly flushed" Layman
