Memorial Day Weekend
Click each picture for a closer view.

Super weekend!   I think everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend. Chris Lay had a landing gear failure,  (not his fault...good landing) typical Hanger 9 Ultra Stick failure...   Jeff Milam had one also...   Mike Grippin had an unusual bird encounter.   He was on a long powered approach when he saw something drop from his plane (probably the bird) and the engine went dead.   Bird strike ;O) see pictures 1&2 for damage :O)

Check out picture #5.   Jeff Layman actually brought two planes to the field.........WOW!   Only kidding Jeff!   We all appreciate the time you give to others...   especially me   :O)

Pictures #6 thru 9 are of my Magic.   They were taken by a friend of mine (Mike Moore) with an Olympus camera that has a 10 times optical zoom.   The inverted shot was taken while Tim Treneff was flying it.

Pretty much, all of you know how much time our President and Vice President put into working at the field.   Tim and his son Alex work more than they fly.   Jeff Layman helps so many others with their planes that he usually doesn't get to fly his own planes.   Well there are others that we don't usually see and, I think I'll start mentioning them.   I'll start referring to them as our HERO'S so look for this in the future.   We might not see them at the field but they contribute much of their time.   This is not meant to put down other members that just don't have time to contribute.   So Please don't take this the wrong way.   And I'm sure I'll miss some members that have contributed.   Email me at jhowland@usit.net so that I can add you to the HERO'S list  :O)

HERO'S OF THE MONTH……

JIMMY GIBSON.   Jimmy has mowed, put sod in the gullies at the field, installed a watering system, and is always ready to help in any way he can……….

JEFF COWAN.   Jeff didn't fly this weekend but he did engine work on our John Deer and put it back together Saturday morning……….   He also left his generator at the field so that the pressure washer could be used to clean the mowers…

RICH JOHNSON.   I don't get to see Rich at the field much but he's an accomplished flyer and probably has more time on our 100" Jacobson mower than anyone.

MIKE GRIPPIN.   Mike spent an entire day aerating and seeding the runway and pit area.   I wish I could remember the times but I think he said he started at 9:00 and didn't get finished until dark.

MARK TAYLOR.   I'm not sure what he's done this month but every time you look at the windsock give thanks to Mark ……..   He contributed it to the field.

We're very fortunate to have a flying field so close to a big city and members that have time to contribute to maintenance.   Please let me know of others that I have left out.

OK!   Soap Box off……
