Beautiful day, clear sky's with highs in the upper 50's but, WINDY. I knew some were chomping at the bits to go flying. I was one of them but, I didn't want to test my skills in the gusty 10 - 20 mph winds. When I got to the field there were 7 to 8 people there and one plane had been retired, KIA. The maiden flight of an Avistar :O( Those that flew, met the challenge of the wind and, not a plane was lost in the afternoon.
Ricky Gateley (Porky) and Jeff Cowan enjoyed trying to get their sticks to hover and do some vertical landings. When the wind was steady and strong, the vertical landings were just amazing to watch. The one I saw went from 15 feet above ground, straight down to a soft landing. Tim and Alex Treneff were the only one's trying precision flying. Tim was flying his Sig SE and even in the gusting winds, flew inverted and slow 10-12" above the deck!
In the pictures you'll see Porky with tears in his eyes. In another you'll see a smile and money in his hand. Porky sold his Avistar with mixed feelings. ;O)
Jeff was hawking his 60 size Long Ranger but, no takers. Nice helicopter, working strobe, nav lights and landing lights.
Welcome to John Gilana. John was there with his kit built PT 40. Nice cover job! Some of us helped him set up his controls. When Tim arrived, he did some final setup and took it on its maiden voyage.
