The Downfall of the Ancient Chaldeans

The Chaldean Empire, also called Neo-Babylonia, had taken over Babylon after the steady decline of Assyrian control. After the rule of many great kings Nebuchadnezzer the first gained power. His campaigns in Egypt would not be an omen of good fortune for his empire. Nebuchadnezzer took his armies to a troublesome Palestine and after many bloody battles he returned home, where after a few years he would pass away. After this great king’s untimely death a series of horrible leaders would attempt to pick up this great nation, each of them failing miserably. During the rule of one of these terrible leaders, Belshazzar, the mighty Medo-Persian Empire would destroy the Chaldean Empire during their time of weakness. The Neo-Babylonian Empire fell in 539 B.C.
