Daughter of JESSE & TABITHA 'MATTIE' COTHERAN.

BARTLEY MARTIN SHELTON was born near Fairfield Va.
He enlisted in the 44th TN Inf Reg Co H, CSA at Trousdale for 12 months:
transferrred to the 44th TN Inf Reg Co D, on 16 DEC 1862.
He is listed on the muster roll at Chimborazo hospital #4 at Richmond VA on 31 OCT 1863.
He fought in the battles** of:
Shiloh TN
Perryville KY
Chicamauga GA
Signal Hill at Manassas VA
Fort Hedricson
Drewry's Bluff VA

He was wounded at Drewry's Bluff Va 16 MAY 1864, in the lower left arm - leaving a stiff little finger on his left hand.
He was paroled at Macon GA at surrender.
In May of 1902, at age 65, with a wife and 21 year old daughter, he applied for a pension (#4272).
