For many of you who come to this site, Anorexia is a demon you are all to familar with. This, however, will give a basic explanation of what Anorexia Nervosa is. As you already know, it is an eating disorder.
Anorexia means "loss of appetite" but that is not a characteristic of the disease. It's victims are almost always hungry and through amazing self-control and willpower they don't eat. But why do they do this? So they can get thinner and thinner. Anorexics have a distorted body image. While they may be 5'4 and only 80 pounds, they still see themselves as fat, and thus want to lose more weight. Weight, body size and shape, calories and fat grams all become a horrible obsession that takes over an anorexics life.
This obsession with diet and weight and eating less and less spirals out of control over time and can kill.
